Who has a perfect SR MBP?

Hi, I'm about to make a switch from PC to Mac, and I am very close to buying a 2.4 15" Ghz MBP.

However, I've been reading these forums (and some others) since the new SR's came out, and now I'm paranoid that the notebook I get will have a funky screen, broken keys, whatever..

I know people who post on these forums come mostly because of problems, so there aren't many threads saying "My Macbook is perfect!" But I'm still nervous. (I'm sure there are others like me) That's why I need some people to convince me that the new Macbooks aren't terrible, and that people do indeed have perfect computers. I made it all the way to checkout yesterday before I decided to give it one more day :(

If your SR MBP is flawless, please let me know. Thanks

(Sorry for the silly thread. I don't want to take any chances with a $2500 computer)
 
ME! Memememememe! ME!

This thing is gorgeous. 15.4" MBP with 4GB RAM and glossy, LED-backlit screen. It's just a world of awesomeness, and I'd strongly recommend the new MBP to anyone looking for a laptop of this caliber.

I've actually read quite a lot of good stuff about these machines... I mean, there's always complains about every product on the net because folks with problems head online to look for answers and/or rant.

So, yes, perfect :) I'm very happy, made it worth the wait on shipping.
 
Mine is perfect. I've had my first Mac for less than a week, but I already don't know how I lived without it. My screen isn't yellow. The machine doesn't whine or moo. All the keys work as they should and any problems I've had have been "operator error". It does have a tendency to get a little hot, but I use smcFanControl to push up the fans a bit and am sitting at 43-48C for everything but WoW (which can get up to as hot as 70C).
 
I just ordered my over $3k MacBook Pro. This time I was sure to order it before I went on any product specific forums. They'll scare you away for sure. :)

The people this particular forum probably are more likely to post "got my new MBP today and let me tell you, it works great" than Apple Discussions, which is where someone brought this argument, but it still stands, and basically it goes like this:

Few people call tech support to tell them their computer works great and thanks so much. People come to the forums here for tech support and people don't go to support when their computer works. The people that post here represent a small sample of the people with the computer who are choosing to go online and see of others have the same problem than to get the issue solved locally or through Apple. You can be assured several things. More people have the problem than who has posted here, obviously, and also, that many, many more people do not have the problem and are also not posting here.

And even within this group there is a nice majority of people who don't seem to have a problem. Read the thread someone started to collect information that has about 30 replies... a great many of which are people with a computer working fine.

Relax. Besides, even if only one out of 100 people has a problem, or 1/2 of everyone, it could still be you that has an issue, and it could still be you that doesn't.
 
Oh, I also wanted to say that I have spent considerably less time on these forums now that I have my MBP than when I was bored and waiting on any news of them at all. I'm sure many others are off playing with their perfect new machines also and haven't made time to stop by and say how completely great they are, since that would cut into work/play time. :p
 
My 17in SR MBP is perfect. No broken keys or anything. I think people make too much of a deal out of these minor occurrences, and blow it up to something that affects every single MBP ever made or will be made.

However, when I am doing anything too graphics intensive, the computer does tend to heat up, but that is not something I am worrying about.

Stock 15.4" 2.2 ghz with a matte screen. Work perfectly. No build nor operational defects noted in the 4 days I've had it. No dead pixels, no weird noises, nothing to complain about so far.

(Bootcamp 1.3 + Windows XP is also working perfectly, including all functionality for isight, sound, and graphics)
 
Well this thread was a success. I went ahead and ordered the computer. My first Mac ever. I'm pretty excited.

I have the 2.4 15" SR shiny screen mbp.

No problems.

No dead pixels
No screen yellowing
No screen flicker
No overheating
no wireless crashing!
 
worth mentioning

Something worth mentioning,

when I was @ WWDC, I met about 50 people who had SR MBPs. No one there gave a single complaint. Everyone's was working.

To add to that note, however, I will note that out of those 50 people, they only had two of the models: 2.2ghz 15" and the 17". It seems like most complaints in this forums about kernel panics, overheating etc come from the 15" 2.4ghz.

I know that sounds stupid, and not very logical, it's just what i've noticed.

I will definitely let you know how mine turns out :) (Ordered the 2.2ghz with glossy screen and 160gb hard drive).

I just got my macbook pro matte 2.2ghz, 2gb, 160gb, 2 days early today!

It is absolutely brilliant machine, and the display is amazing!

No dead pixels, no aesthetic complaints, it's exactly what I expected. Ps, Ai, and Ind run amazingly on this machine!
 
Mine's perfect ... as long as I don't connect to certain wireless access points, The kernel panic issue is a software driver one, though, so I don't think it counts against the MBP hardware. :)

Since it looks so similar to my 1.5GHz 15" Powerbook I'm constantly forgetting that I have a new laptop, and then I get shocked by the speed of the thing.

I'm getting 65-70fps in WoW walking around in the major cities on my 2560x1600 30" ACD with all options turned on. The powerbook, on it's 1280x854 screen, got about 4fps with most options at minimum. I'm blown away by tthe speed differences (especially with graphics).

One of the best upgrades I've ever made, and I've owned a lot of computers over the years.
 
Not Me!

My 1st one which was the 15" 2.4 (which was the last Glossy either of my local stores had) was AWESOME except for the yellowish screen at the bottom and loose battery.

Returned it today for a 15" matte 2.4 and its perfect except for the yellow tinge at the bottom. Yes it also has it. Also doesn't seem as bright as the glossy.

Anyway, I will keep this one as it appears they all have a slight yellow/brown cast at the bottom. The store models did as well.

Seems like they are selling more glossy than matte, and I know why. I so much prefer the glossy but I really needed my macbook pro for work so I couldn't wait for a glossy. ANyone on the fence, glossy is so much nicer IMO, and glare was never an issue.
 
I guess I could call mine perfect. The screen has no issues (quite amazing actually), and there seems to be no mechanical defects. I'm in love with this computer and wouldn't trade it for anything.

My only issue seems to lie in battery life.
I have tried many different configuration's and have yet to come close to a time close to what this laptop was quoted as.
It's aggravating because the battery doesn't seems to reach 100%, and I'm sitting in a coffee shop (battery supposedly full), brightness at one notch, only wifi on, and the quoted time remaining is just shy of 4 hours...

Unbelievable. I don't know how this will bode when I go to college. I may have to buy an extra extended life battery.
