I bought the 2.4 SR MBP Glossy and it is absolutely flawless so far. This is the best screen bar none that I have ever witnessed in a laptop. I have the 968 model screen which from reading some of the posters here you would think is not good or something. But mine is simply perfect. Great brightness, absolute clarity, no yellow tint as some have and most importantly to me, 0 bad pixels. Now how does one know whether or not you will get a good screen just because some here have? I was praying after I ordered mine that it would not have any bad pixels. I am just unable to use a screen with even one bad pixel in it. I have a phobia of this for some reason and when I got mine and fired it up, I spent most of the initial setup time just looking for bad pixels. Luckily I never found any and all the while I was completely impressed with the screen. So far this is the best laptop I had ever bought or used and I have had some really nice ones over the years.

Anyway best of luck to you in getting a flawless one because if you do I am sure you will be ecstatic with it.

I share the same thoughts as you. This is by far the best laptop I have every touched and everyone I meet is enamored by it.

I have that same dead pixel phobia. I guess it started a few years ago when I bought my first laptop (a Gateway) and it had 2 stuck pixels and I had paid over $2000 for it. It took some restling to get it replaced but I did get it replaced.
Every computer I've owned since I hold my breath and my heart stops for those first few seconds that I turn the computer on for the first time hoping to not see a dead pixel.

I know what you mean about holding your breathe. :) My first dead pixel machine was a compaq which at the time cost me $3200.00. They tried giving me the old, well you need more than 7 dead pixels in a common region before we can replace it junk. Well after spending the money on it and fighting with compaq for awhile I quickly realized that whenever you buy anything with an lcd panel you are rolling the dice. My friend actually bought a very expensive panasonic lcd tv a year ago and it had dead pixels in various places. They tried giving him the same BS until he had contacted his CC to stop the payment and reverse the charges. When the store got word they quickly changed their story and offered him a new dead pixel free unit in lieu of cancelling the payment. I think the manufacturers or stores, try to see who will live with the dead pixels. I know I personally can't even if the offer it for free to me. I don't mind paying but I do mind paying for junky quality control.

Gorgeous

I just got my SR 17" with the HR display. It is replacing a rev a 2.16 17"MBP. I can't find anything wrong with it. I'm in love with the display, and the thing flies! I was reading these forums before I got the MBP, and so I did a careful analysis of it before I turned it on and right after loading up (pixels etc). I couldn't be happeir!:D

I feel exactly like the OP; I am going to be a first time Mac owner and I have been reading these forums since the new Macbook Pros have been released, and now I am very apprehensive about purchasing a MBP. The Apple Store near my office was actually holding the last MBP 2.2 Ghz with glossy screen in the metro area for me today, but when I went to pick it up I just kept running all the complaints I have read on the forums and Apple's notorious record with version 1.0 of anything and ended up just leaving.

I don't want to spend $2k on something that I will not be pleased with, should I wait about a month or so for a new revision?

I got the 2.2ghz with 2gb ram and 160gb HDD as an option. Shipping was fast and the macbook pro is PERFECT! Couldn't get anything better for the buck (or for more bucks) screenis gorgeous, keyboard feels nice and works great in the dark, trackpad is "probably" the best one of th market and as a switcher, (from pc to mac laptop) the biggest hing is Mac OS X. Imagine Leopard...

17'' 2.4 Ghz, 4800 RPM 250 GB hard drive
No Problems here so far
does get a little hot, but I think it's ok.
I'm gonna undervolt it when coolbook is updated though
I really hope it doesn't have the thermal paste problem, but it might.

Does anyone know if undervolting this macbook Pro will void my warranty?

I have the 15" , 2,2 GHz, matte MBP and it is absolutley awsome.

I also had the first gen iBook G4, and had no Problems with it either. So the "first gen" Problem never was one to me!

15" Sr 2.4 Mbp, matte screen, 160gb/5400 - Perfect

stop reading the reviews, read software requirements and how to get used to the new operating systems. also check out peripherals like if your current printer and/or monitor will work.

*raises hand* I do!

This display is super super bright, it's awesome. I agree the main color profile pumps the yellows a bit, a lot more than Adobe RGB does, but my display isn't yellow, no dead pixels, everythings great.

With my history of problems with laptops, I was due for one without any issues. YAY!

So far Me too.

Utterly excellent bit of kit.

The screen is a revelation after my old G4, it easily rivals the 20.1 Iiyama I have for my PC.

I can't believe how fast it is, but then I had let my PB get a little old...

I do too.
Screen: Mate, perfect. 0 dead pixels, perfect backlit ilumination.
Fans and HDD: Unhearable Very nice temperature, etc.
Keyboard: No Sticky keys, just great.

Basic model, 128 Mb Nvidia.

mine

id say it might be a little too hot at times for my liking, but it seems to be the norm.

also there is the odd time when you can see little waves propagating down the LCD or sometimes left/right it onlyhappens on like one website and only on the bits where they have this dark grey panel with a grid of small darker squares in it.

its very odd, but other than that its awesome..... screens great, but obviously no match for my dell 2005fpw 8bit IPS FTW!

Mine is perfect too :D

It does get a little hot, but not any hotter than any other laptop I've tried. I'm looking forward to getting to know OS X a little better :)

How can you say that it's perfect when there are little waves propagating down the LCD...?

15" 2.2GHz — Perfect. I moved to this machine from a dual 2GHz G5, and I'm pretty impressed by how much faster it is. I also had a 20" dell lcd, and this screen looks just as good, if not better. Completely satisfied.
