3? Little generous there, I was going to say 2Virtual machines (often involving testing software on different OS versions), some scientific applications, people who use more than 3 Chrome tabs…
I’m enjoying reading these responses. I have this weird desire to one day be able to max out a machine like you guys. I get by with 8GB. I’m merely a pleb amongst the company of titans.
For chess of course!!Wondering the real world applications or benefits. Besides film who's using this?
They don't want to increase the number of RAM chips and have to wait for chips with higher capacity.Only 96 GB RAM in the MacBook Pro is a joke.
Apple should have at least doubled the RAM.
Back when an Amiga 500 with 3MB could do a lot of multitaskingI am used to heavy multitasking since the 80s

Heck yeah!! Go for it man. Aye, the good Macs of yesteryear — the ones that were actually upgradeable.I had a 2010 5,1 Mac Pro with 128GB. I did run an enterprise CMS (local instance) along with other things on it and the 128GB was useful.
I haven't upgraded the 7,1 yet due to unexpected expenses relating to injury and hospital. I will probably go up to 192GB for it and 2.5ghz 28 core Xeon.
yep, the only time i get mem swap on my 64gb m1 max is when i launch a project on final cut.Anyone who uses Final Cut Pro should, bc that application is an absolute freaking mem & space hog.
I had 128 in one of my 5,1s as well.I had a 2010 5,1 Mac Pro with 128GB. I did run an enterprise CMS (local instance) along with other things on it and the 128GB was useful.
