I had a 2010 5,1 Mac Pro with 128GB. I did run an enterprise CMS (local instance) along with other things on it and the 128GB was useful.

I haven't upgraded the 7,1 yet due to unexpected expenses relating to injury and hospital. I will probably go up to 192GB for it and 2.5ghz 28 core Xeon.
Dang, hope you get better soon. As for some positive vibes of updating RAM, my 7,1 is a totally different beast with 240GB; upgrading from 32GB. (I went with OWC, 192GB 32x6, plus 2 more 8Gb so I could keep using my existing RAM.)

I’m getting there - slow road to progress but fingers crossed no more problems. Worst bit is having one leg now a bit shorter.

The biggest improvement I got on the 5,1 recently was getting a RX6600XT video card, flashing that in windows and using it on the 5,1 - it runs quicker, cooler and quieter than the RX580.

It appears to benchmark higher than a lot of the modern M series Macs which was a nice surprise. In practice it runs great.
