Looks pretty cool. Almost exactly the same size as the RX100 II.

I have a RX100 MK I. I really really enjoy using it and I desperately wish it had a view finder. The RX100 MK III looks fantastic. I think the faster lens is great but looking at the spec I worry the EVF is not up to the level of the latest offerings elsewhere and think that actually, the MKII with the add on EVF would be better for just the EVF facility. It also still has the bounce flash which I enjoy using.

So I am on the fence. What I know is that it takes great pictures - just wish I could see like a photographer and take pictures rather than snaps! Like most things in my photography arsenal... I have all the gear and no idea!!!

Prices for the RX100 II have are dropping so I will most likely look into that. RX100 III is expensive!

I found the Sony software to be useless, and hard to remove once installed. The Nikon Capture software I have on my computers will unload jpgs from the Sony, but not the raw images. I'm not sure why this is but I don't care, because I only work with the the raw images in LR 5, which unloads them just fine.

If I had a lot more money than I do I'd probably sell the II and get the III when it comes out, because with a camera like that I prefer to go wider than the II can go. I don't think I'd miss what's lost at the long end of the new lens, and the speed would be nice.

I'm tempted to sell my NEX-3n and pick one up. Don't know how similar to the NEX menu system to the RX100 is, but it's terrible. I'm just used to it.

Even still, it'd be really nice having something like this on me because I don't really carry the NEX unless I know I'm going to be taking pictures. And I feel like I could put up with the 1" sensor looking at some of the samples and dpreview comparison.

I think BestBuy has it for $799 now. At least I saw one in my local store. I know Sony has discontinued the NEX designation but I wonder how this compares with the NEX 7 - even though the 7 has interchangeable lens capabilities. I think the sensors are similar. Right?

The one I looked at was pretty nice. Pop up VF. Wasn't able (of course) to determine image quality. But camera build was great. The new model opens at 24mm and goes to 70mm (35mm equiv).

Was the pop-up EVF comfortable to use? I've been meaning to go look at it in person.

As for the sensor, this has a smaller 1" sensor, whereas the NEX-7 has APS-C. I don't really care about that, though. This is like the ideal carry-around camera. DPReview gave it a gold award http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/sony-cybershot-dsc-rx100-m3

Got. Really happy with it so far but only using it as a P&S, really. Far better than the canon s110 we had before. Got a great pano of Half Dome at Glacier Point in Yosemite the other day.

Ah, awesome! Well, I'm trying to decide if I want one because it looks like a great gadget or if I really need one. I haven't managed to find one in any shops yet so haven't been able to check it out. I wonder, if you wouldn't mind, what the viewfinder is like in terms of size. Is it big enough for displaying the FOV plus the aperture/shutter etc information without being cramped?

I usually wear glasses so my eye is a bit further back from the vf. I can see the entire FOV and either the top or bottom info at any time but not both. Without my glasses, I can see all at one time and doesn't feel cramped. Size seems ok for framing, but my eyes are bad enough that text is too small and I don't see myself using the EVF at all. YMMV but I would say not good for glasses wearers.

What camera(s) do you have now and how many cameras do you want to end up with? For me, this covers portability, P&S, and home video while my dslr covers the rest in a two-camera system. A bit overkill and expensive for that purpose, to be honest, but happy with the decision.

I think the Oly is a far better choice if it will be your only camera and you want to be a "better photographer"! Hate the term but know what you mean.

Can it fit in a jeans pocket? I really don't like carrying anything, and when it's warm out and won't be wearing a jacket, I want something better than my phone that I can keep in my pocket.

Also have you taken anything in low light yet? If so, how would you say the autofocus and image quality are?

I don't think I would be fully comfortable putting it in most jeans pockets. While the body is not too much larger than, say, the pocketable canon s1xx series, the lens sticks out twice as far making it much less pocketable. Shorts pockets, yes, but jeans pockets are usually tighter. I ended up putting it in a shorts pocket on my thigh. It bounced around a bit but that kept it away from phone, keys, etc.

Can't speak to low light, yet.

Yeah. Happy with this. I usually shoot raw on dslr and used to very quick tone adjustments. Haven't had to do this on the sony do it is close enough for me, at least.

Sorry, I went back and checked. It was an S100 not S110. Better in every way than the S100 but size and price.

But 3x the price does not get you 3x the IQ. Diminishing returns as you pay more, you know. It's a value assessment that depends on the individual. I wouldn't blink twice at the cost difference as I value the capabilities and IQ of the Sony above what the price delta means to me and it's impact on the rest of my life.

Happy new owner of the RX100 M3 as of yesterday!

For me, top priorities included: Viewfinder, fast sharp, high-quality lens, user-controllable settings (Aperture Priority, Shutter Speed, Manual), and small size (it probably won't ever be in my pockets but will be in a small dedicated compact camera bag or (probably most often) in the bag in which I also carry my iPad Mini. I have a couple of trips coming up where for various reasons I cannot take a DSLR or my NEX-7. This new little camera should do quite nicely. I would have liked a slightly longer zoom range but on the other hand, the awesome sensor (for a camera of this size) and that wonderful lens are far more compelling. This will be a great supplement to my other cameras and will go places where they cannot.

I really love my mark one rx100. It goes all over with me. Really excited about the mark three but I am in dead mans shoes position. Need to see demise of mark one before I can get a three. The one thing that dies it for me is the EVF. Miss it desperately. My second camera is a Sony A7 and to be honest for a grab and dash option the RX is hard, very hard to beat IMHO.

I love the flexibility and capabilities of the RX100 and at time I looked at various alternatives including canon G series and s100... RX just blew them away for my needs - yours may be different .

As for pocketing. I can pocket mine but the lens catches on the lip of my pocket so I just have it in a lowepro case or hanging round my neck.

I'm glad they removed the hot shoe and put in a useful EVF for MK III - returning the design back to it's original sleek form

When can we get an ASP-C sensor in one of these things?
