For work, I use a Windows desktop. The iPad actually fits better there, too, as a 3rd screen.

This is perhaps the most underrated use of an iPad 12.9 - mounted as a companion/second screen to any other computer (desktop, laptop, whatever). I use this setup a lot, and control the iPad with a Magic Trackpad.

But the MBP has a worse screen, worse camera, no pencil, no touch screen, worse speakers, smaller battery and no 5G. Especially the display is a big difference (basically the same display as their $6000 display)

Now OS X is better than iOS ofcourse. But hardware wise, I would go for the iPad Pro.
Those things are true, but the MacBook has a keyboard, trackpad, and an OS that runs apps that allow me to get more work done in a more seamless manner.

So, for my workflow and the way I use a device, I would prefer the MacBook over the iPad if I had to only choose one. I have an iPad and use it extensively, but it's easer for me to get business work done on the MacBook. So, if I am going to spend 2,400 to 2,700 dollars, I would put my money on the MacBook Pro as opposed to the iPad.

iOS 15 may make me change my mind, but I feel the iPad OS has a long way to go for how I use a device to equal a notebook computer running Windows or macOS.

Just my opinion, and I know others would say the exact opposite as we all have differing preferences and ways we use our devices. That's why having options is so important.

Not me. If I’m going to spend $2700, which I may in fact do, it will be getting a 256gb 12.9” M1 iPad Pro cellular, Magic Keyboard (in white) and a new iMac. I’m definitely going to get the new iPad Pro and will trade in my existing 2018 iPP 12.9”, so I guess I’d be spending a bit less than $2700, since I’ll get the ~$500 trade-in.

I’ll probably go with the 1TB Cellular. I ran out of space on my current 2018 with 512. Filled it with video lectures I recorded from the iPad and uploaded for my students. I had to pick up an external SSD (2TB SanDisk portable Gen 2) to move the videos off my iPad. The SanDisk was just under $300. It worked great but that adds an additional device I need to remember to pack and carry around. Most likely would have gone with the 2TB iPad had I not just purchased the SanDisk.
