I just want to know if it works for them. My gf is using a 1.6Ghz celeron with 512mb of RAM and she hates it. It is a very personal thing. I think 2GB will be fine. Just wanted to check.

You can ask 10 people and they can all tell you it works for them. Then you buy the 2GB Air and if it didn't work for your GF then the idea of asking those 10 people wasn't the best idea. Now based on the fact your GF is coming from a PC with very low specs she'll probably do very well with 2GB ram in the Air.

But honestly, a better question would be, just an example; (My GF needs to run Photoshop CS5 and she won't be using the computer for much of anything else, she doesn't do much web surfing, nor does she do emails very much, would 2GB be enough for Photoshop?).
That type of question would give you a more accurate return on whether or not the 2GB would be good enough. But if it's all about money for you then you know what to do. :)

If you run bootcamp = NO
If you run a virtual machine = YES.

I decided to buy the 2GB 13" for her. The 11" would be better but she likes the 13" screen and size. She will happy when she gets hope tomorrow from work.

Not true...I need internet explorer for work and use a 13" 2GB Air through VMWare Fusion just fine. Maybe it's a little slower than if I had 4GB, but I can't tell it feels fast to me (no beach balls).

I actually went to buy the machine today and left with a MBP instead. I will give her my Air. Never saw it coming the twists and turns of life.

For everyday use, 2 GB is pretty enough imo. I'm using 2 GB version and haven't had a issue with RAM.

So what made you pick the MBP, when a refresh is likely in a few months. Which model?

I often read these questions and always end up wondering if anyone ever makes a decision based on what other people say about how much RAM is required. Of course, the only honest answer is it depends on you.

I have the basic MBA 11" with 2 GB. I love it. I teach at a university and run a small consulting company and do all the work for both on the MBA. I am also active in a major non-profit and manage my work there on the MBA as well. I use the heck out of the machine and it is perfect for me. But, notice, I don't play games, edit movies, control the space shuttle, or other "heavy duty" tasks. I do run lots of spreadsheets, huge powerpoint presentations, write book length manuscripts, and similar "office type" things on my MBA.

This is my third MBA and frankly this computer has been a game changer for me. I can now carry the machine on any trip, no matter how light I must travel.

There are times I find the screen just a tad small, probably due as much to my poor vision as anything else. The screen size means I have to navigate around in some spreadsheets more than I would like, but it is a small price to pay for the increased portability.
