Ordered 16th, not yet built!!

Hey guys, first time commenter, long time reader.
I ordered my first Mac ever! Cant wait, I hate Windows SOOOOO MUCH! I ordered the iMac 24'' 2.8Ghz one. The only change I made was a wireless mouse. This was back on the 16th; it is now the 29th....so I called Myer to see what was going on. The guy that ordered it for me wasn’t there so I spoke to some random, he said my iMac hadn’t been built!!! What the??? Is it because I live in Australia?? Or is it the 2.8 ghz one??

If anyone from Australia (Adelaide, would be good) is in the same predicament please let me know. This set back is very frustrating as I need it for school (I wonder if I could get free Leopard, or half price off Leopard or something)

Thanxs for listening,
James

There's a 4 - 6 week wait on 2.8GHz iMacs in Australia. Don't know why - just stating fact.

He probably has no access to estimated shipping times - certainly not his fault. They may arrive earlier - it's been known to happen. No idea as to when they will arrive, I have three on order now so I'm just as anxious. Chill out man, not the salesman's fault.

Apple guy who works for David Jones in Sydney city store told me the same thing about the 2.8s. I'm hoping they come in early because its been 2.5 weeks so far and I'm itching to fire this baby up!

The Apple Australia website still shows 3-5 days for 2.8. Does the delivery time change after you place order? Need to order one for family.

When I placed my order last week on Apple Canada it showed 5-7 business days. True to form, I just got my shipping notice emailed so machine should hopefully arrive this week with expedited shipping.

I ordered my 2.8 stock config upgraded to the 750 HDD and wireless mouse on release day in the evening. Wednesday morning I cancelled my order via phone and ordered the stock 2.4, upgrading that to the 2.8 with 750 HDD and wireless mouse so as to save $150 and get only 1GB RAM since I was also ordering 4GB 3rd party. Why have a 2nd 1GB stick 1 wouldn't need.

My order came much faster than expected though I opted for free ground shipping, it shipped two days later on Friday morning of release week and was expected to be delivered the following Wednesday. It arrived on Monday instead, less than one week after the announcement!! It did come with a unsatisfactory screen panel (pixel and backlight issues) and so was returned on Tuesday. That Friday the replacement unit shipped and it arrived the following Monday. All in all it was quite fast even with the replacement, which has one stuck pixel near the edge of the screen. I opted not to make a big deal of this since it is on the periphery and I only see it if I go looking for it.

BTW I did not get the wireless keyboard, knowing there would be a huge delay, nor did I opt for the 1TB hard drive for the same reasons, along with the fact that the price difference wasn't worth the extra 250GB. I was ok with the price difference on the 750 and preffered that over the 500. I have my old miniStack with a 500 sitting on the foot/base of the iMac with the two left side ports (near the back) facing forward (so the stack is turned 90 degrees allowing it to fit there - otherwise the ports & power in the back would push it too far forward on the foot).

The 750 in the iMac is a Seagate 7200.10 SATA II 3.0 16MB cache with perpendicular recording which is the drive I would have hoped for. Not sure if the 500s are the same or if they are still using Maxtors. I have the IDE version of that same drive in a 500 in my miniStack.

FYI, my quoted Apple shipping and delivery times for my original order and my replacement were longer than actual, sometimes by over a week. However it sounds like that is not your cases, as mine shipped within 2 days or so. Maybe that after the initial reports, demand has gone up, along with possibly a limited stock of the 2.8 initially which has gone down. Don't know. Good luck.

Ordered my 2.8 on Aug. 9th. Was to ship by Aug. 16th, then by Aug. 20th, then by Aug. 24th, then by Aug. 28th, now by Sept. 4th. This is the first Apple computer I have ever ordered and may be my last. I thought I would enjoy switching from Windows to Apple, now I am not sure.

Relax and be patient Steve, as this is a new product rollout time, once you'll get it you'll be mesmerized by your new iMac. Enjoy...

I placed my order on the 10th of August, it was sent my way on the 20th and I received it in the morning of Friday the 24th. So exactly two weeks. I didn't go for the wireless keyboard or for the 750GB or even 1TB hard drive, as those options added several weeks to the delivery time. This was all in Europe, though; don't know how it is in Australia...

I ordered the same specs as you did except for 2GB of ram on Aug. 9th. It still hasn't shipped. Maybe Apple just doesn't like a switcher. :(

Oh please, because of a shipping delay that would make you change your mind and go back to using Windows?? That makes zero sense.
Well if you go to Dell don't order the XPS 1330, you will be waiting till xmas to get it.

Did you order direct from Apple or from a dealer / store other than Apple?

24-inch, 2.8, 4 gig RAM -- ordered the night of the announcement and received it on the following Monday.

Great machine. Very happy. I have been working on a 400 megahertz G$ Titanium Powerbook since they were first released like six years ago.

I'd say my new machine is a noticeable upgrade.

Ordered mine and now the wait is killing me

I ordered mine on Aug 22. The ship date says Sept 5. Let's hope it doesn't get delayed (but based on what I've read, I'm expecting it to get delayed.) I ordered a Macbook Pro at the same time and it's supposed to ship between Aug 28 - 30 so I'm hoping that at least comes soon to give me something to play with.

My friend and I ordered our 24" 2.8Ghz iMacs from Dick Smith on the 18th and were told it would take 5 - 10 business days.
My friend called up today to see if they were in or would be in by Friday. The store rep checked and said that they we just built and shipped and should be here by Wednesday, so 1 more week to wait for my 1st Mac :(

I just canceled my order. It still wasn't even showing preparing to ship. I order it on Aug. 9th. It was just the standard 2.8Gz iMac.

Now the good news. I will be going to St. Louis tomorrow to pick-up my new iMac. They got a shipment of 2.8Gz iMac in today.:D
