Hey guys, first time commenter, long time reader.
I ordered my first Mac ever! Cant wait, I hate Windows SOOOOO MUCH! I ordered the iMac 24'' 2.8Ghz one. The only change I made was a wireless mouse. This was back on the 16th; it is now the 29th....so I called Myer to see what was going on. The guy that ordered it for me wasn’t there so I spoke to some random, he said my iMac hadn’t been built!!! What the??? Is it because I live in Australia?? Or is it the 2.8 ghz one??

If anyone from Australia (Adelaide, would be good) is in the same predicament please let me know. This set back is very frustrating as I need it for school (I wonder if I could get free Leopard, or half price off Leopard or something)

Thanxs for listening,
James

To All Australian Folk who were unlucky to not get their 2.8G imac in the first release, I Ordered my imac (first time buyer of Apple product) on the 10th August 2007 and there is no sign of it yet. After many abusive arguments to get to the bottom of this, this is what i have been told

The 2.8G imac will BEGIN to ship from the 7th September 2007

The reasons are:

The imac when launched on the 8th August came in three flavours 20inc 2.4G, 24inch 2.4G and 24inch 2.8G.
There was only very few of the 2.8G machines released into the public domain first up. The rank order of release was direct (apple store) internet customers first, then the major Apple re-sellers got their allocation and finaly the minor apple-resellers got their lot.

On the 23rd August the 2.8G variety was discontinued as a standard model in Australia, and was made a custom only option. (Problem is Apple didnt tell anyone, and it is still being touted as a standard unit)

Further, This unit will only be shipped from singapore as a CTO unit, which means there will not be a lot of these around in stores!

Basically, what this means is that because it is a custom order preference will be given to the 2.4G model first.

It would be worth your while to order 2.4G models and upspec them.

Im not happy about it, and as a first time purchaser of apple products, it has left a sour note!

Hey u guys, I called Myer yesterday to ask what going on....again! He said mine has Shipped on the 29th!! YAHHHHH ;) SO HAPPI!! It still has to go to Syd, then Melb and then home to Adelaide. I should get it by next week, Thursday or Friday. My mate also called NextByte and the lady said that people that ordered the 24'' 2.8ghz one on the first day got there’s last week. So it doesn’t look like there is a shortage.

Well hope you all get your's soon, and that you will be impressed like i know i will be!

Ordered mine with 1GB RAM and wireless mouse on 11th and it went out for delivery on Monday 28th - I wasn't there to accept but that's another story. It arrived in Wellington (NZ) over the weekend but they wouldn't deliver sooner than Monday. So just over two weeks.
