who switched FROM the 9700 to the 3GS?

I see alot of threads about how people switched to the 9700 from the 3g, which isn't a fair comparison. Who here has actually used a 9700 for more then a week and later switched to a iphone? Playing with the phone at the store doesnt count hahah. I see alot of people switching to the 9700 from the iphone 3gs so i was wondering if there is a large amount of people who switched to the iphone from the 9700.
 
Not a switch but using both. Love both of them. Hate both of them.

3GS has drop calls, bad signal strength and crappy battery life so cannot really play with it much unless I am near a wall socket/computer/car. 3GS has excellent browser and tons of apps + high quality games. 9700 has a small screen (but good pixel quality), crappy apps (but a few works well), mediocre browser (unless I use Opera Mini) and just isn't overall fun. It's a better phone, best speaker earpiece, no drop calls, constant connectivity and all my messaging and social apps running in the background with instantaneous notifications 24-7, love BBM connection with family and friends for free (without worries of missed calls) and battery life that lasts forever.

The only thing that BlackBerry has going for it is BBM.

I never get dropped calls on my 3GS and I had a few on my 9700. I'm on Rogers.

Also, I believe (now I'm not 100% sure and I'm too lazy to look it up right now) that the 9700 has a higher resolution than the iPhone.

With the anticipation of this new Bold 9700 coming and my thoughts that I should try it upon release because the physical keyboard was 'better' and that I could have my emails going into one box instead of having to touch-tap through to the multiple inboxes on my iphone.

On launch I bought the 9700 outright, charged it up, and set out to use it as my only phone and I put my iphone in my drawer. WOW - did I miss my iphone!!

I've owned BB's since their inception and the argument they have going for them is a secure network, BB Messenger, and for some it's better at handling email. (To my surprise I now like how my iPhone handles mail more than the BB, and I prefer the touch screen as opposed to a physical keyboard).

I'm happy it turned out the way it did ... kind of a costly learning experience activating phones, buying outright and selling second hand but at least now I know FOR SURE what phone is right for me and for sure it's the iPhone.

Then I went through the recent phase of wanting to try the Motorola Droid and the Nexus One ... after reading reviews and playing with the Droid (Milestone) it's not for me.

My conclusion that for my needs, running a Business included the iPhone is by far the best phone on the market. It's simple, it works, doesn't crash or lock up, no battery or sim card pulling, the on screen keyboard is so much faster than any BB IF you practice, the screen is excellent, great app's ...

I tend to get bored with things, so I go through a lot of phones and notebooks. Being a Windows and Blackberry fan boy for a LONG time, it's a shock that the iPhone, Mac OS and MacBook Pro's turn out to be the best tools we can find ... coincidentally they're all made by Apple. Have I become an Apple Fan Boy? That's bad isn't it? Or, is it?

Don't forget battery life. It's my biggest iPhone gripe. I'm sure I'm not alone.

Damn it! I hate AT&T! And the "coming to Verizon" speculation is getting dimmer by the day.

Plus I think it's because of the screen real estate that's why the BB screen looks stunning in comparison.

3GS: 320 x 480 pixels, 3.5 inches

9700: 480 x 360 pixels, 2.44 inches

i will have to politely disagree. i could hammer on my 9700 and still have a good two days. iphone, not so much.
maybe you had a bad battery management OS when you had your 9700?

looking at it side by side, i don't really a difference in the sharpness between my 3gs and 9700. But then again, this is coming from a guy who doesn't think amoled isn't as great as people make it sound. (the one on my n85 was lacking)

Equal amounts of time since I use both numbers; but since the iPhone dies faster on some days due to the battery, then I think the BB gets more usage if I check the minutes. The BB gets more used for voice calls, emails, messenger, twitter, bluetooth. 3GS gets ample time for browsing, Facebook, graphics intensive games, podcasts/music, occasional videos, and a number of apps.
 
I am on my way to Wal-Mart to buy a unlocked Blackberry Bold 9700. I am getting rid of my 3GS, which I've had since June for the Bold. I usually spend the last 4 months with the Blackberry, then switch to the new iPhone in June/July. I will probably end up buying a Touch. I am about to spend $450 on a unlocked 9700, sell my iPhone 3GS on ebay and break even. Lets see if I can stand having a Blackberry for 4 months. Lol.

I have both. The IPhone is my personal, the 9700 is a work phone. Sucks carrying two & I actually get better call quality on my iphone. (3gs)

I prefer to use the iphone. It's just so much easier to use. Email, web, apps, all of it is just more user friendly on the iphone.
 
I just bought the 9700. It cost nearly $500. 30 day return. I'll test it out for a few days and see if I like it, before I put my 3GS on eBay.
 
Had both, sold the iPhone 3GS...Battery life was atrocious, sure I can do more with it, but not if I have to constantly worry about finding a power source. Personal preference was physical keyboard v on screen kb, multi-tasking on BB, and for me, with family in the USA, BBM is the killer app...as none of them use any other form of IM.
 
Batter life - Here is the answer

All I myself have both the 9700 and the 3GS. I have tested each extensively for work. I can honestly say that the iPhone is MUCH better. Call quality is superb, email and browser blow away the BB 9700. The only category the 9700 won was the battery life.

Well problem now solved. Have been testing the Mophie air battery case and it is unbelievable! Now battery life is better then the 9700! The Mophie works perfectly giving you essentially another battery. I use the Mophie battery first and then it automatically switches to the iPhone battery. After a full 16 hour day of very heavy use including location services on, bluetooth headset on, and wifi on constantly at the end of the 16 hours I have 70% battery left on the iPhone. On light days I have 100% battery left on iPhone and still have some juice left on the Mophie.

Day 2 of BB 9700: Battery life is really good. It feels good in my hand. I can't type as fast on it as I do my iPhone. If you know how to tweak the BB, then it'll be much better. I have .442 on my 9700. I downloaded the leak version of it. I just applied themes on it, looks better. BBM is really good. The speaker phone is really loud. Call quality on the Blackberry was better, in my area.

Of course the iPhone wins in browsing and multimedia.

I am going to test out the multimedia aspects of the 9700 tomorrow. Just maybe I'll be able to keep the 9700 for four months and sell my 3GS. Day 5, I'll decide.
 
Here's why the iPhone handles email better. You can see your imap folders. You can drop messages into any imap folder. That alone makes it ten times more versatile. Push email? Not a BB exclusive at all. I have push email and over the air syncing with Google Apps. BB's are great but not if you really want the full range of features that truly replicate a laptop.

Cool, thanks for the review/update. I too have both the iPhone 3GS and the 9700 ... for me the iphone won, simply because it can do more of what I need to run my company ... I always think it's funny when people say iPhone isn't a business phone, I hear it often, fact is for my business from Manufacturing to Marketing and daily operations the BB is nowhere close to as capable ... as someone noted iphone has more 'laptop capabilities' I'd agree with that and it's why the iphone is my phone of choice.

Since I've used and owned nearly every BB model made I'm still uncomfortable with the iphone's touch keyboard, but I think I can type faster on it than the BB, accuracy about the same ... it's the feel of the keys on my fingers than keeps making me want to try/buy all the new BB's that come out, still after this new 9700 the iphone wins. I wish we could blend the best qualities of the two phones together, what a phone that would be!

Totally agree here - good at different things although if the iPhone battery could come close to the BB 9700 I'd probably veer towards the iPhone. I use both too.
 
More time for the BB on Facebook and Twitter? I disagree. I find the experience for both much better on the iPhone than on the BB now that Facebook push is now working most of the time. I find the Facebook app on the BB to be tedious and squished, tough to navigate and figure out what's going on. That said, the phone, messaging (text, AIM, Gtalk) and email services are much better on the BB, and multitasking is more fluid as well.
