I bought the Pencil thinking that I’d like to draw with it. Turns out I only keep it attached to keep the screen from freezing.

Really another thread for this. If people don’t understand the purpose and usefulness of the Apple Pencil. Why would you buy it?

Guess it’s been stated clearly enough by now: if you’re not into drawing and handwriting, there’s little point in having an Apple Pencil. But if you are, your queest ends here: get one, NOW ;-)

As an artist, i got it for drawing. But i was surprised at how much i would use it for taking notes as well. I didn’t but the pencil for that, but i take lots of notes now. Paperless baby!

Oh...i also use my pencil a lot when i edit videos or photos in imovie, luma fusion & infinity photo too. Really helpful for that. Totally worth the money in my opinion.

Often times, it isn't that they don't understand the purpose and usefulness in the general sense, but something that someone else is doing in particular that would be of interest to them.

I bought an iPad Pro (my first) and the new Apple Pencil (also my first) earlier this year. I think the Apple Pencil is brilliant, and use it for:

1. I write ancient Egyptian hieroglyphic texts, transliteration, and translation in Apple Notes.
2. I do watercolor paintings using Procreate. It's not the same as doing the "real thing," but I can start and stop whenever I have time (no preparation or cleanup) and it's a lot less messy (getting paint on the table, your fingers and clothes, etc.)
3. I use blackletter brushes from Jake Raimis with Procreate to write German calligraphy in the Fraktur script.

I use the pencil every day for hours taking notes at university. However if I wasn't taking classes, I am sure it would be collecting dust .

I'm a teacher. I use the pencil along with a first gen 12.9 iPad pro as a virtual whiteboard, projecting it onto a screen, and then saving the pdfs for students who want to download them. I also used it as a notebook for taking a class. And I use it for writing out problems, or drawing little diagrams for exams. I have an iPad mini as well, but don't use the pencil with that.
