Who wants the 24" iMac back?

Who wants the 24" iMac back? I do for one. When I get a new iMac I'm going to get a 24" alu refurb. At the moment I have a 24" white intel.
 
Why? Okay, 27" is big but for 1500€ it's what you should get. 24" with sharper resolution would make things too small and 1920x1200 is quite small for many tasks :p
 
I can only imagine what the size of the iMac screens will be 10-20 years from now. 50-inch iMac with a 9400M, I can see it now. :D

Seriously though, I don't see why you would want less screen real estate.
 
Well, maybe its just me lol, but I found the 27" ones I tried in the shop too big, and my 24" white intel iMac gives me all the screen real estate I need :D
 
24" iMac

I like the 24" iMac as well. 1920x1080 is too small in 21.5".

I wish the base model is 24" and high end is 27".

kinda in the fence to get 27"
 
I'm guess this same discussion happened when the 24inch came out. Something along the lines of "17 being too small, 20 being all anyone would need, and 24in. way too big"

I'm digging my 27. But, to each their own.

we all are agree, we want big screen.

27" becoming too big machine itself (desktop CPUs rock in them) You can see from the box, it is not easy to carry. I wonder apple brings back 24" and keep 27".
 
I can easily see screens going up to 32". Beyond that, it probably becomes a problem with placement, etc.

I, personally, would love a 32" iMac, but I'm probably in the minority.
 
I would love to see a 24" i5/i7. My 24" is all the screen I need - really can't justify the 27".

But who knows. With a really good refurb price in 4-6 mos.?

Totally agree, I'm waiting for the day when there are two or four screens in every room of the house...... including the most important room. lol.

In the future and by the rate of progress not that far away, Well be looking at 3D touch sensitive screen activated by voice or even thought, although I'll bet some bugger will have worked out 'logic thinking' software which will automatically know what to do before we even do.

But seriously. Having reported in a previous thread the mistake made by the company I work for. I think media savviness is going to require much more work space, company video, webvideos. leaflets, blog reports etc etc, a good computer is going to be vital to anyone starting or already running a small business and just like a big desk..... there's no substitute for space.

50-inches? I'm counting on infinitely scalable holographic projector the size of a thimble. And an "iMac"? I want my computer in a credit card sized package that I can network into said projector. None of this desktop/laptop nonsense.

I saw that Microsoft 2019 ad. I know what's coming. Get out of your 2D world. It's not worth it. :p
 
Dots per Inch matters!

Being the old fart that I am, type size and clarity matters. The larger the dpi, the smaller the visual type for any font size. Here is a comparison:

My current favorite monitor attached to a Powerbook G4 17":
NEC 19" LCD 1980sx...1280 x 1024...14.9x11.9...86dpi...5/4

I can easily read the System font in the menu bar and elsewhere throughout Mac OS 10.5x with my current display. AFAIK it cannot be easily changed. My partner has an iMac 20" and the System font in menus is harder to read. I can imagine that it will be very difficult for me to read 12 point type in the iMac 27"!

Apple must allow System font point size user adjustment soon or their monitors will only be useful to teenagers with perfect vision. That is, of course, if they read as much as I do, which I doubt.

This tread seems to be going the way of speculation on when will apple get there act together and launch a new large screen. I want i want i want..... now
 
I bought a 24" iMac refurb last week when I saw that they were no longer available. The 27" was a bit too massive for my office setup (not to mention the refurb pricing). I like having a second display, so my 22" Samsung LCD (which now looks TINY) will get replaced with a 24" Cinema Display soon.

haha nice!

the only thing I miss about the 24inchers is the thin alu frame around the screen, the sharp cut between glass and the chin looks awkward to me
 
I want 1920x1200 back. The 24" iMac uses it, and I am using it here on a 23" Cinema Display. Absolutely perfect resolution, and elements on the screen are not too small and packed in to see without squinting. I haven't seen a 27" iMac yet, but I imagine that will be the experience -- the resolution is too high for that size of screen.

Sorry but I don't agree. I 24" alum frame isn't in-keeping with the black gloss. The new 27" flush with glass works at keeping the eyes focussed on the display. Of course soon enough in revisions the black border will get thinner the god awful chin will get removed.

Also, I was comparing the sizes of the 24" and 27" and TBO there isn't a huge change. A bit wider really, but something I think anyone could get used to.

Still I'm not too impressed with the new 20.1". Who buys a 20" in 2009/10? It was impressive in the G4 (although v pricey) and attention was grabbed with the 2004 G5 iMacs but me thinks not in this day an age.

The huge gap between 21.5 and 27 inches is a little strange. I was hoping a 24 inch model would have stayed in the lineup at a lower price. That's what I had been saving up for.

I can only live off ramen noodles and water for so long. ;)

I agree, the 27 inch is only slightly wider but after a while you do get use to it
 
I feel like if I pay this kind of money, they could at least throw in a beautiful 27" screen.
besides, the new iMacs, aren't just bigger.
they're also more buffed up, but still remain the same price.
 
Me. 24" really is the upper limit on most work desks IMO. 27 looks obnoxious and dorky, perfect for socially retarded troglodytes who like to hide in their basements and watch HD on their giant iMacs. Also great at luring Best Buy shopping drones who will zombie-shuffle over to the newest, biggest, shiniest thing, until the next big shiny thing comes along. This is Apple's new target market.

Mac mini w/SSD + 24" ACD > 27" iMac.
