Anybody bothered by the S3 Pentile display? Whenever I look at it next to the iPhone LCD display it looks so dark and not as clear for text.

Hmm interesting. I don't want to cause any trouble with your feelings on the S3 ;-) but open macrumors on your phones side by side and turn the brightness all the way up. That's how I used to test the screens in store. I always came across liking the LCD screens better. That includes the HTC One X because that uses LCD too.

I too had an iphone since day 1, and was eligible for an upgrade about 2 months ago. After seeing the 5 I wasn't blown away, and and now currently have the S3. I love it, we'll not all of it.
For me the pros of S3:
Realistate: screen envy, I wanted a bigger screen.
Customization: I like the live wall paper, and my nerdy star trek sound effects.
The notification light.
Shiney new phone syndrome: speaks for itself.
Cons: not as intuitive as the iphone, but very easy to learn.
Typing: As said the keyboard seems unpolished which is dumb founding as this would seem to be a rudimentary task.
Build quality: the S3 seems more delicate, and this is from someone who dropped and cracked every iphone. The iphone 4 twice. We shall see how the galaxy holds up to my sausage fingers.

To anyone else considering to see how the other side lives, transferring my itunes and contacts was a very simple process. I should also note that best buy gave me a 30 day option to return it if I didn't like it at no charge.

When I got my s3 I couldn't stand the keyboard either. So I downloaded a new one. Try swift key 3 which has a 30 day trial or try jelly bean keyboard by johntanmi. Both are serious improvements over the nasty Samsung stock keyboard.

I almost switched to S3. A while ago I read a quote, "Anything worth learning can't be taught.". As humans we have challenges that face us daily and can surely use what today's technology has to offer so as to make our lives easier. Be it in business, private lives or even entertainment. When technology becomes a subject taking our time to master BEFORE it sits well on our hand to be a meaningful catalyst, simply defeats the reason it is designed in the first place. Both the iPhone 5 and the S3 are great machines. Elegant communication tools. Amazing features. Impeccable design.
I must say I find most people switching from iPhone 5 to S3 for reasons such as "I got bored using iOS" or "S3 is bigger" or "iphone is too easy to use", etc. For me, I don't want to spend time learning the pros and cons of my mobile phone before I can use it meaningfully. I want to get it out of the box and use it strait away to live my life. Not living to learn how it works. Excitement is waiting in the apps department.

Since no one I know doesn't use a screen at full brightness what is the purpose of this test? I had an iPhone 5 used it for a week and took it back. I have had every model of iPhone. As others have posted android was not a replacement for IOS until jelly bean. Why Apple made the decision to play it safe baffles me. I guess success blinds you to changes happening in the marketplace, reference Blackberry. Lte, 4 inch screen, faster processor are good improvements but are catch up not leading. I am enjoying my Galaxy S3 including the screen. I live and work in a Mac world and use the Eco system everyday. I can't imagine what changes the 5s or 6 would have to have to bring me back. Typing that still surprises me

I'm sorry but using a variation of " my grandmother can use it" is funny. With that reasoning, if the first smartphone in your hand was an Android then your post would be reversed.

As per title, who waited for the iPhone 5 announcement before making their final decision and going with the Samsung Galaxy S3 instead?

I was using the iPhone 4 for 2 years and my contract was up and it was time for a new phone. I waited for Apple to make their official announcement before going for S3 and so far I don't regret my decision at all.

Was it worth the switch for you? And why did you switch to the S3?

Reasons for my switch...
- required a bigger screen than 4" for my needs (browsing, YouTube, photos etc.)
- bored of Apple's UI, a change is well overdue
- the phone doesn't look much different from my 2 year old iPhone 4
- didn't want to go through iTunes as it was too time consuming adding music, videos and photos.
- Samsung Galaxy S3 worked out about £350 cheaper over a 24 month contract

After the iP5 announcement I wanted to try Android again. Went to the AT&T store and played with the GS3, HTC one and the Note 1 for about an hour before making my decision to get a red GS3.

I also don't regret my decision at all. Also have a 64gb card loaded.

I expected a decent amount of cons from the GS3, but surprisingly I haven't had much to gripe about.

I agree about iOS I'm using a nexus 4 now. However my original argument stands. The s3 Imo fails on the display. Put the phones at half brightness hell put them at zero. It is my opinion that nexus 4 iphone one X lumia 920 all look far better. I could see pixels on the s3. The note 2 is an improvement but still not on par with the best displays.

However none of the replacements in the Google Play store are good enough. And believe me, I have downloaded all of the usual suspects(Swype, SwiftKey3). I make so many typos on this phone now it's almost embarrassing to text anyone, or type on this thing.

Really? Swiftkey3 set to rapid mode gave you typos? Swiftkey3 on rapid mode for me was so accurate that it blew me away. Im very suspicious this, because it should dramatically reduce your typos on rapid mode big time!

I wish I could say otherwise but it was frustrating to the point that I thought of returning my S3 for an iPhone 5. It got to the point where it was really quite embarrassing because I would make so many typos I didn't want to send out any professional, or lengthy work related emails from my phone. I still have it installed on my phone, but I much prefer Swype leaps, and bounds to SwiftKey.

Yeah I prefer swype too! I think SwiftKey3 is great, but since there isn't a button to enable S Pen that kinda bothers me so I don't use it... I'm getting used to swype and I like how you don't have to input spaces, that makes typing way faster than any other method using your hands.

I use Thumb Keyboard. I generally have an aversion to touch screen keyboards. My previous two phones had a landscape slider keyboard. I do not use any type of text prediction and found that I can type fairly well and accurately.

When I switched to the SGS3, I really hated touch screen keyboards. I tried SwiftKey and eventually switched to Thumb Keyboard. I turn prediction off as I hate having to correct words that the keyboard thought I misspelt, but I didn't. It took me almost 4 months before I really felt comfortable with touch screen keyboards or at least Thumb Keyboard on the SGS3.
