Hamilton Below Zero

Love the watch - hated the rubber band - bought a fake Bell and Ross in Chinatown - loved the band so swapped the fake BR band on the Hamilton and VOILA!

not really hard to read

Yeah a little - but you get used to it. Tritium dial works well in low light or night time. Get more comments on this watch - than any other watch I've worn or own. Black dial watches seem trendy at the moment - but this watch is built like a tank and keeps PERFECT time. Hamilton is actually owned by Swatch - The below zero isn't cheap but not real expensive either, comparatively speaking. Also the watch is SO heavy it could be used as a weapon - if needed. (sort of just kidding). Here's another better pix.

Finally I have arrived.....
Battery died and took it to a quickie battery replacement place instead of sending it to Seiko. Well, the "o" ring was pinched and I wound up with a mini aquarium.
I had a similar experience with one of those quickie battery places set up on the mall floor. A female clerk took my watch and I came back to retrieve it only to find my watch's back plate scratched and being pronounced dead by that same clerk. I know she did not know how to open the watch and put in a battery.

After that, I say "never" to those places. I usually don't say "never" to anything as there are always exceptions to the rules. But, this was one of exceptions I have kept and will keep for the rest of my life.

I have enjoyed these two watches for a few years now. Looking for a new one. Any suggestions on a watch that is really impressive?

Nice. I love Rados but unfortunately don't have the cash to love them that much.

My "Shakespeare" "Hamlet" watch. His face not shown (it's on the other strap). Swatch watch from 1997.

Looking for a watch

Hello everyone,

I am graduating from university in July and my family are pitching together to get me a gift of my choice.

I'm thinking I'd quite like a nice watch that will last me for years to come. Basically something that I can keep for the rest of my life and still use. I've been thinking between £500 and £1000. I am uncertain how much people are clubbing together with, but I am more than happy to add my own money to get something in that price bracket.

If anyone could recommend some nice watches or tell me a bit of background information on buying a watch at this price, I'd greatly appreciate it. Omega and Tag Heuer come to mind when I think of brands. Are these watches expensive because of the intricacies when building them, or are you paying for the name?

Something else I am considering is a nice pen that I can use throughout my career, and it is again something that I can keep forever.

Any help is greatly appreciated. I know next to nothing about watches, but I'm pretty certain that I want a metal watch strap as leather ones seem to warp and get yucky looking relatively quickly.

Thank you for any help!

I'm not in the clubbing stage of life anymore, but I really love my Seiko. It's kinetic so I never have to really worry about the battery. I got a low key silver and black version for around $300. Looks great and will hold up forever if you treat it right.

Go to watchuseek.com for watch chat :)

You didn't really say what movement or bezel, or strap you wanted, or even if you have any preference outside of price at all. I'll take a stab in the dark and say you just want a classy, reputable and appealing looking watch. Wrist size and watch size are also really important. You don't want to feel out of place.

I think guys in your shoes (if I'm right) are jumping on the Tag Aquaracers right now - they're a really gorgeous watch when worn and everyone that's not a watch freak knows what a Tag is.

High end (for your budget)

The Tag Formulas are nice, haven't worn one.

Always try on a watch, although that's not always possible, so go to that forum mentioned and call out for a wrist shot (or search they'll have wrist shots already).

There are literally 1000's of good and beautiful watches to choose from in your budget out there once you educate on the rarer brands. Good luck, wish I had a forseable watch purchase coming up :p
