Who is using the oldest iPhone as their daily driver? No cheating claiming you use your 3GS daily as an iPod but carry a Pro Max as an example! :)
What is your reasoning for not upgrading? Looking forward to your replies!

iPhone 7
Bought it a year ago and no problems so far.
Not planning to upgrade cause all I'm doing is SNS calls and messaging, a little photo on instagram.
My only complain is camera, but I don't not see any point in paying extra for iPhone 11 or 11pro just to get better camera.
Might consider purchasing iPhone SE2/9 though, if it have iPhone XR level camera

I thought my 7 was great, I retired it a few weeks ago unfortunately. It was my second one. People couldn't hear me during a phone call, and facetime was impossible, as I couldn't be heard. The speakers still work. The size was nice too. You thought it took up your whole pocket, until you got a phone that does.. I work in a machine shop, and had my phone in my pocket daily, now I leave my new one in my locker. I got the 7 3 years ago, before that I rolled with my trusty 32gb 5S. That phone is badass to this day.

Such a nice phone, I have a black and white 16gb. They used to be fast.. 9.4.3 now I think? Been a couple of years since I powered them up.

I have one with a shot battery on iOS 6 back when it was re-signed for a while, that I use with a 30-pin JVL dock

I think its dual booting iOS 9 too but I recall it being slow as hell?

I'm on a 6s running the latest software whilst my other half is still on her 16gb 5S running whatever the latest software that can have.

I would consider using my old 5S again, but I just financed my new one. While making this post I laid it down on this phone. Such a massive difference. I do miss how small it is. But I don’t have to squint with this phone, since the screen is about 3x bigger 🤯

iPhone SE as a daily driver. Runs great in iOS 13. Need a better pocket camera though as I travel a lot. Been holding off 11 Pro due to price and 11 because of design/size.

Will get the SE2 if it has the 11’s main camera capabilities like I‘m certain it will. Design and size similar to 8 would be perfect for my needs. Otherwise will get the 11 and adapt to it.

5S, but only because my friend took petty on me running around with my 4S, and lend me his 5S...

Will likely upgrade to either an iPhone SE2/9, or XS, depending on what the former turns out to be. It is actually working fine for my needs, but I can't upgrade my Apple Watch to watchOS6, and soon 7, and the Lightning plug is almost non-functional. And well, a better camera and more speed is always welcome I guess.

^ are you tempted to upgrade at all or still happy? on iOS 9?

I don't think it can be upgraded ? my understanding is iOS 9.3.6 is the last upgrade - unless you are talking about upgrading the phone? - sadly it needs a new battery and might be time to let it join my iPhone 3 in a drawer 😢 - been passing up a free phone from my carrier for a while.

It sure had a great run and still works great as a phone (great reception) - Safari is the only app that is slow - love the size - always felt the IP5 was too big - LOL

"The iPhone 4S and my MBP 2012 i7" best Apple products I ever bought 👍 - both still working great in 2020

yah I meant new phone. Good for you that’s awesome

....not overly old but I'm still using my iPhone XS.

Didn't upgrade to any of the iPhone 11 ranges last year and DEFINATELY will NOT be upgrading this year neither.

I've (FINALLY!!) realised that yearly upgrades to iPhones are pointless and not worth the money they cost vs the actual technical improvements of the devices each year (i.e. better camera, better battery, blah, blah, blah which are not justified IMHO).
;)

I dunno. My 11 Pro Max is finally going to be put to pasture when the 12 series phones are released this fall. ;)

aside: as for your problematic lightning plug, i would suggest taking a toothpick and gently cleaning it of debris. i have to do that annually on all of my phones (over the years) as lint can get packed in there and cause connection issues.

I second this. When the 6S came out i immediately jumped on the IUP program thinking all of my issues with buying and selling to keep up with the new phones was going to be warranted!

Fast forward to iPhone X I was in love with that phone... but because i was on IUP I upgraded to XS and then to 11Pro and with each upgrade got a little more bored. I think this 11Pro will stay with me for an extra year at least this time. The better factor wares off when you upgrade every year...

This is my plan every year but I'm thinking my ambition will die early this year if the rumored iPhone 4/5-esque form factor makes its return.

Then again, my current Pro is in a leather case so maybe I'll just pretend the new one's in there.

On iPhone 7 daily driver. Similar situation - 11 Pro too expensive, 11 too big.

Hoping to remedy that as soon as the iPhone SE2/9 is released. Battery on my 7 is shot. Unplugged this morning 100%, quick check SMS and it shut down and wouldn't turn on. Plugged it in the car, device turned on and shows 97% charge. 🤬

If the 4.7" iPhone SE/9 or 5.4" iPhone 12 rumors don't pan out, I'd likely get a 5.8" iPhone 11 Pro. The iPhone 11's size is a dealbreaker.

Yup. A shiny new toy each year is really tempting, but ultimately, that’s all it adds up to. Hold out for 3 years or more then when you upgrade you REALLY feel like you’re getting your money’s worth!

In fairness, before the iPhone 6S, performance got quite bad after the 2-year mark so upgrades were more desirable back then. There was also the $450 device subsidy built in to the plan costs.

Nowadays, phones maintain their performance better. While Apple A9 isn't quite as snappy as the A12/A13, it's still perfectly serviceable. With phones being as expensive as they are now and the lack of subsidies (unless you're switching or adding a line or something), there's less benefit to frequent upgrades.

I'm not a big phone user so $500+ annual depreciation is a pretty steep price for always having the latest and greatest. Now if there was an iPad upgrade program, I'd happily jump on the bandwagon. :D

Thank you for the suggestion, but I've already done that to no avail. :)
