Who's in the market for iMac pro?

Maybe - The thing I'm concerned about most is the fan noise. A 500w system with two coolers, will be loud at load - that's expected. But if it doesn't idle at low db values, then no.
Bit rich for me, however I guess after the initial buy in then people could probably do what a number of people have done with Mac's which is basically buy the new one when it comes outs and then sell the previous one second hand.
With the resale value on macs being pretty good then people don't tend to lose too much.
Just need to look at it differently whereby instead of buying a box then upgrading it in a couple of years then simply swap every year, getting incremental updates yearly.
Sonnettech and Netstor do nice TB expansion where the TB part is on a separate card so can but the expansion with a TB, then upgrade to TB2 and then to TB3, possibly TB4 when it comes out, so if need TB expansion then can upgrade that whilst need the PCI-E slots. If buying new then but the native TB version as opposed to a PCI-E card.
With expansion being by TB then basically pop out existing iMac Pro and connect peripherals to the new one, so should be fairly easy in terms of swapover compared to opening boxes taking out cards, disks etc to swapper to new tower.
As such can see Enterprise IT liking them as if have a fault simply come along, and replace the iMac Pro, take the old one away and fix and get the user up and running real quick.
If business purchase then can probably even write off the loss on the old iMac Pro against tax.
I guess a lot will depend upon how well the cooling works and how loud it is. However guess will have to wait for them to get into the hands of people too find that out.

It's really appealing to me, however i'm primarily after the TB3 ports and the Vega graphics more than anything. It's a bit annoying that it's all flash based, purely due to the cost of higher capacities, as I prefer to have internal storage. But I suspect that could be a difference between it and the new Mac Pro.
Probably not - mainly due to my 5K iMac is fine for what I do. But I am glad it's available for those who can make use of it and I hope it sells well so as to remind Apple that better performance across the line can equal better sales.
I'd almost guarantee you it was done to fit the much larger cooling for the CPU+GPU.

Not sure what you were looking at but the picture with the back removed has what looks like 4 RAM sticks to me, including clips holding them in. Going to be bold and say can be replaced by User. Just need to remove the whole back first as opposed to a little flap by the where the stand goes in.
Well there is "easily" user replaceable via a cover like on the 27" and there is "not easily" user replaceable like on the 21.5" where you have to take the screen off to get to them.
I am going to guess this will be in the "not easily at all" as you will probably need to take both the screen and the logic board out. And I am guessing this is not due to spite on Apple's part but because of how the improved cooling system works.
That being said, maybe Apple is going to start offering "enterprise level" on-site support options including the ability to have a tech upgrade RAM (for a significant price, I am sure).
yeah, of course. but you need to completely disassemble the whole machine. remove the LCDisplay, remove the main logic board and so on. not doable for most users.
Definitely interested. Currentlt on a nMP. But it will depend on wether they spoil a new new Mac Pro later this year, and if they'll announce a new display alongside with it (they said there'll be a new Apple branded display eventually, and i think the awful pictures in today's keynote made it even more obvious why that's an absolute necessity!).

That's what I figured as well. Up to configurable to 128...unless they meant initial customizing ram from website.
This has cemented a feeling for me that the new MP will be insanely expensive. I don't think we will see a mid range Mac from Apple, which is a shame considering the mid range parts from AMD (Risen 1700+) and Intel (X299 8 core).
I think it's a bad ass machine. I just can't justify spending $5000 on a computer. Even if I built this machine myself with similar parts, I doubt it would be much cheaper. So I can't claim Apple is overcharging. But I do feel it's overbuilt for an all in one.
For sure this will be perfect for some companies with the cash to toss around.
That black keyboard and mouse, tho...

I can't see us getting them at work (video editing for TV broadcasting). More likely we'll wait and see what the new Mac Pro looks like. We've moved our workflow from Final Cut to Adobe Premiere anyway, so if Apple come out with something disappointing in that space we'll just have to bite the bullet and put Windows machines in.
And yes, I did just vomit a little bit thinking about that. However, these aren't personal machines. They are there for one purpose only.

You'll like having dedicated internal SSDs as scratch disks. Some of the newer intel mobos support 3 or more M.2 SSDs. hot stuff.
I am in the same industry.. A LOT of eye rolling from everyone at our company.. I guess we will limp along again and wait for the new MacPro's.

With the projects for this year falling through, I won't be able to afford or justify the pro, but it's .. what i want.
I will settle for the imac 2017 edition and pretend the PERFECT in my eyes imac pro doesn't exist.
It has exactly the hardware I could only wish for, and that dark color is just so pretty.. I wish i could justify 5000, which means 6000 euro probably.. 6k will let me change my life, i can't live with myself knowing i spent that for personal use on a computer.. and i wont be using it professionally enough to earn it back.
I am torn.
But I will buy the imac 2017 edition high end model with the money i have saved up thanks to saving for two years. and that is still a bload of money that i wish i could buy other things with. But at least it pushes me closer to that professional position where maybe in teh future i could justify and afford the iMac pro.
Maybe i should marry a rich woman or win the lotto or rob a bank.
If it was 3500 to 4000, and avialable now, i would have taken a loan with my parents and pay it off over a year, the extra 1000 i miss. but 2000 .. or more .. i mean 5k for entry level .. i duno, i just wouldn't be able to sleep at night knowing i spent that much on a system..
struggling to pay the bills, and having a new system once every decade, .. knowing what is ahead of me in my future, and without having to disclose everything to everybody or owing anybody a f explanation.. just pls take me for my word that i honestly feel that system is made for ppl like me, but i am in the type of life where it's not a reality for me.
i will just buy the other rediculously overpriced machine - at least they released one, after two years.. ffs.
