I just use my M1 14" as a daily driver. I haven't tried anything else. For me it's internet, multimedia (plex/youtube/netflix) and really that's about it. Have to admit I've been looking for a reason to upgrade and can't. I even have a $600 credit with apple and can't find a reason to get rid of the thing. I can't tell if I'm just old now and not longer always needing the new new or what. How is yours treating you or if you've traded in how's the new unit. Was it worth it or no real reason to upgrade?

I was on a 16" 16GB M1 Pro until a month ago. I had no issues at all, but the trade-in price that Apple offered was too good to pass up and the M4 seemed to be a good upgrade cycle to jump into.

After a month on my new M4 I've noticed... mostly nothing. It's faster, but in the areas that affect my productivity the most, it's not noticeably faster. That's because it was already about as fast as it could get.

M1's are going to be really solid workhorses for a good while to come. We're on a site where people constantly talk about having the latest and greatest or about always wanting more. Don't get sucked into upgrade anxiety. I have a 2009 that still works fine for everyday computing.

I’m loving my bulky but otherwise rocking 16”, 32GB RAM/1TB SSD, 10 Core CPU/32 Core GPU M1 Max MacBook Pro. It’s the best Mac / Personal computer I’ve owned. I use it primarily for development and discrete event simulation / modeling. I’m considering upgrading for two reasons: (1) Productivity boost with LLM-based AI projects and (2) Possibly less bulky (lighter/thinner) form factor that matches my current CPU/GPU performance.

An M4 Pro MacBook Air with 64 GB RAM and 2TB storage would satisfy both conditions. I know the Air does not currently (and may never) include the Pro SOC as an option, so maybe the M5 base might. I’m not in a hurry though because my M1 Max MBP does everything I need it to do.

OG base 2020 M1 MBP bought at launch, works perfectly fine still. I am yet to hear the fans kick in.
I am going to upgrade to the 14 inch MPB at the end of this year or early next year as my device will have been half a decade old by then. It could still go on for quite a bit longer, but since I use my MBP for work every day for hours, having an all-around nicer experience with a better display, ProMotion and thinner bezels will make a difference and the upgrade will be worth it after 5 years. Besides, when I get around to upgrading it, the MBP will likely be an M5 model.

Going strong, a few things here and there noticeable that weren't say back in 2021, but otherwise I don't plan on upgrading at least until M6 gen, and even then I suspect I will still use my M1 MBP.

Thunderbolt 5 is reason enough for me to upgrade… however, I need devices to take advantage of it as well. I expect the present trickle to develop into a proper swell after the Studio and Pro are updated with it later this year. I anticipate my own update with M5 chips even though present workload insufficiently challenges my M1Max. I really want better monitor(s) than I have at the moment…

MBP M1 Max here: it's fast, silent (!) and reliable, and I feel no need to upgrade (yet). It's the heart of my studio. What I'm wishing for in a next upgrade is a whole bunch of Thunderbolt 5 ports. The three ports on the MacBook Pro are simply not enough, so I'm leaning towards an M6 Mac Studio in about 2-3 years.

TB 5 had made me consider the Mini M4 Pro. But all serious reviews suggest one wait at least a year in order to see useful TB 5 devices in the market.

I used an 13" M1 Base with 16GB as my main machine until 4 months ago. Was still going strong, but upgraded recently to 14" M4 Pro to add an additional screen and get Thunderbolt 5. Otherwise, the M1 was running great and still had decent battery life.
