Still using my iPad 4 with no problems! Aside from some lag when switching between apps and some reloading in safari with too many tabs open, it still does everything I want it to, so I see no reason to upgrade yet. Maybe once the iPad Air 3 or 4 (or whatever it will be called) comes out, I might think about it

+1

Still thoroughly enjoy using mine but the reloads due to low RAM are annoying, hence why I use my Note 4 for most things.

Hah I'm using my note 3 more often now for web browsing. Its a shame this lack of ram.

Doesn't really answer the question. Why are 3 and 4 so bad?

I can't speak about the iPad 4 but I do own an iPad 3. It was the first iPad to use the retina display and the GPU was a marginal improvement over the A5. The iPad 4 was announced later that year. The iPad 2 handled iOS 7 better than the iPad 3.

The iPad 3 was far underpowered. Apple knows this, because they made it obsolete within the same year. Although the iPad 4 fixed the performance issues, it still carried the increased weight and thickness of the iPad 3. The 3 and 4 brought the Retina Display, but the cost wasn't worth it. For all intent and purposes, the 3 and 4 was a step back for the iPad line. Meanwhile, the iPad 2 has proven to be the most future proofed tablet to ever exist for early purchasers. The iPad 2 is one main examples against the conspiracy of planned obsolescence. I honestly wish I had bought an iPad 2 instead of an iPad 3.

I enjoy my iPad 4 still and plan on keeping it another couple of years. I'm seeing some slowdown in performance but nothing bad. I'll probably just stick with iOS 8 unless apple improves performance in iOS 9 like they are rumored to.

Yep, same here, use my Note 4 more for browsing than my iPad 4, the Safari reloads are just too much, I keep updating to the latest iOS hoping that Apple gave some how magically fixed the reloads, but alas, I am always disappointed.

I use my iPad more for SatNav and as my calender at work these days, when I get home it usually stays in my work bag like a laptop.

I still think the retina display was worth it. My parents enjoy their iPad 3 when watching photos, movies and reading book and recipes. The planned obsolescence concept is a bit exaggerated. But the iPad 2 is very bad example, because apple made long term support agreements with the educational system back in the days. It would be tough to explain why certain school ipads get security updates while normal customers don't get it with the same device. So all its buyers have been lucky. Other devices like the iPhone 3G, iPod touch 3/4G have been cut off from software support very quickly.

Same here. I couldn't wait to get retina. The iPad 2 may well be the longest lived iPad but for me, lack of retina meant I'd rather use my iPhone 4 for stuff such as web browsing, etc. The only time I used my iPad was for streaming videos (where the pixelation is not quite as readily apparent as it is on static text) and comic reading. For ebook reading, I much preferred the iPhone 4 with retina or the Sony PRS-350 (200 ppi e-ink).

For my usage, the trade-offs (slightly heavier and thicker, longer charging time, just a smidge less buttery UI) were worth it. Of course, I did wish they had gone with the iPad 4 directly instead of releasing the 3 and 4 within 8 months of each other but it actually worked out well for me.

I got the iPad 3 64GB VZW in March 2012, the iPad 4 128GB ATT in February 2013 (for increased capacity since mine was constantly full that I had to delete stuff in order to update apps), and the iPad Air 16GB VZW in November 2013 (for universal LTE right before I went on vacation). That's 10-11 months between upgrades which for me is far enough apart as to be considered yearly. :p

I work in an attraction and lots of the school groups now carry iPads to take photos of the kids and stuff. They're quite often iPad 4s, as far as I can tell from a distance.

I'd say that the 2,4 and Air 2 have been the best....

The 1 had too little Ram, the 3 didn't have the power to run a retina display, and that Air 1 has too little RAM.

The 2,4 and Air 2 all had significant performance increases and in the case of h 2 and Air 2 both had double the ram of the predecessor.

I still have my iPad 4 from 2012. Its still very usable, yes the air 2 is faster but I don't find the 4 slow. Still going good and don't plan on upgrading until air 3 I guess.

I use an iPad 4 at work and an iPad air 2 at home. The 4 is just as usable for everyday tasks. The air 2 is much lighter but in everyday use they both perform great. I wouldn't upgrade if I had a 4 as my main ipad...

The iPad 4 is the best of the bunch, aesthetically. I don't like the chamfer edge on the Air and mini. I like the block of holes for the speaker instead of a row of holes. I like the black and silver screen combination. I even like the heft.

Hopefully the next iPad will do away with the ugly TouchID ring. Yes, I said that. I think I'm the only one who likes the old, minimal look instead of the distracting ring.

I'm still rocking mine on iOS 6.1.

Question though. When I start up my iPad, it doesn't let me slide to unlock or recognize any input to the screen for about 2 minutes, no matter how often I lock/unlock it. Anything I can do about that? I'm guessing not but while everyone's here...

Still use my ipad4 daily. Still ruNs well apart from ... Occasionally the sound becomes strange, background in a movie louder than the dialogue, and I have to do a hard restart; and sometimes small videos in iMessage are severely pixelated, unwatchable, although the same video on iPad Air is clear.

I never had the Safari reload problem even once until updating to 8.2. Happens often now, and so I don't think it is a RAM problem, it is the OS.

yes it sits in the kitchen doing nothing but controlling hue when i want, setting timers, and the occasional porn.
Macbook air and iPhone for me.

Nah, the Air upgrade truly made the iPad a comfortable experience. Dont miss my 4 a bit altough it was a good device.

My iPad 3 is still going strong - I go through phases of using it vs. my Mini.

I'm planning to pick up a new one when they hopefully release an upgrade in September/October.
