Lovin it

Yes I love mobile me everything just works- usually.:)

However I do not seem to be able to see all of my emails at the moment. It lists about 200 then I cannot load anymore. Not sure why?

If you like simplicity then get MobileMe. You get what you pay for

So far from what I've seen, the two best perks to mobile me is Find My iPhone and syncing contacts.

I don't know about you guys but iTunes already syncs my contacts and bookmarks and email addresses and appointments and calendars so all you would really be paying for is Find My iPhone. It seems that most of you have had MM for 3+ years and in that amount of time and with the money you have paid for it, even if your phone is stolen you could have paid it off with the MM money. Am I missing something here?

What you are missing is the fact that you have to connect your phone to your computer to sync all of your contacts, bookmarks, and calendars. MobileMe allows you to do all of this over the air. Furthermore, it allows information to be pushed to multiple computers.

If I wanted to do that over the air then I would just do Wifi-Sync. Plus I am always around my computer anyway so if I do need anything I can easily walk over and plug it in if needed. The only time I do sync is to add music or update apps to my iTunes anyways. Unless you constantly syncing every other minute for some reason I guess it's useful but for contacts and emails and other things of that sort, it's just a one time sync for all that.

My husband's another one who's had it since it was free. I started a trial earlier this summer when one of my favorite iPad apps added iDisk support for backups--and they don't offer an easy Dropbox solution, so that's not a viable alternative.

Personally, I HATE syncing my iDevices the normal way, because I simply don't get around to it often enough, so it takes forever when I do. MobileMe means that for certain critical things such as mail, calendars, and contacts, I can "set it and forget it", knowing that what's on my iPhone will be the same as the MBP and the iPad. If I add a contact on the phone, I don't have to remember to go sync the phone with the Mac and then sync the iPad as well. It just happens, with no action needed on my part.

And again, if you have apps that support iDisk either as backups or additional cloud storage, the seamless functionality is awesome.

FindMyiPhone is just a big bonus. Like others have said, I end up using it within the house just to save time hunting the damn thing down. Send it a ping and it will make a piercing noise that's a lot clearer at a distance than any of my ringtones, won't stop sounding until I turn it off, and works even when the ringer is off. So yes, it does work better than just calling it!

We're switching to a family pack this week. $100 on Amazon, cheaper than Apple and half the price of two individual plans.

MobileMe-worth it?

I am in the same boat - do I keep it or not? My free trial expires in 7 days and even though I have seen it for about £9 cheaper on Amazon, I wonder if I have enough time to get it delivered to me before my free trial expires. If not, what happens? I will of course cancel my free trial but wonder if I can keep the current .me address. Also, would next year's subs remain at the discounted price?

The cheap student Mobile Me: Total cost $2 for life
1.Google!: (Free)-over the air pushed sync of contacts, calendars, emails directly from google, no extra apps needed, PURE Google sweetness (my mac is also synced w/ google for my contacts and calendars - free and pure Google too)
2.PlaceTracker $2 (app for locating your phone using Google Latitude, even after rebotting the phone, it would still run) unfortunately not as complete as MM, it just tells you on google maps where is at exactly...

The main selling point right now for the real MM are the extra differing features "Find my iPhone" and the 'iDisk' function, if you don't care much for either of those, then I don't recommend you buying it...

I have custom labels for some of my contacts. Since they don't sync with Google contacts custom labels, I am staying with MobileMe. The minute I can sync custom labels to Google contacts, I will probably drop MobileMe. I do love it though.

I mentioned this earlier in this thread as well.

Hey thanks everybody,

Great to get everybody's feedback, got the iphone4 last Thurs, and am lovin it.
I think I'll check out ebay, but right now I think I'm content doing a hard sync once in awhile, but if a good deal comes along who knows.
I think right now I just need to figure out how this thing works a bit more.

Mobile Me works for me

I really like all the features Mobile Me comes with. I especially like the gallery.me.com feature where you can publish your pictures/videos for others to see. I use that feature to share pictures of my daughter to friends that don't live close by to see her. Like others have mentioned, the iDisk feature is cool. I keep some excel spreadsheets on their and I can view them on my iphone. So to me, it's worth it. But I also heard a rumor of a possible free Mobile Me? not sure if that's really gonna happen though.

It sure is worth it to me having the syncing abilities with my contacts and calendar, accessing files from iDisk, and find my iPhone.

Not Convinced...

I'm just over a month into my 60 day free trial with MobileMe and so far I'm not sold on it.

I love being able to publish various calendars and it works great. I also love the iDisk storage however, the upload speeds are nothing short of horrible and I've had some weird connection errors too (not my internet connection).

I'm also one of those who has multiple non-"@me.com" email addresses so I wouldn't really benefit from starting over with a new email. I know I can get my emails from those other accounts forwarded to my me.com email and then pushed, but replying to them from the phone is another issue altogether.

I think if you are a single email user and/or just starting out with a Mac & iPhone it can be a useful product. But as many have pointed out, there seem to be cheaper ways of accomplishing the same tasks.

I would not be without it! Mobile Me is the biggest thing Apple released next to the iPhone!

Now it depends on the persons needs or individual use of the product to determine whether you agree or not.

I mostly use it for "events" or appointments/reminders. I put all my "ToDos" in my calendar with a reminder and I never forget to do anything! I dont use it for email, idisk or much else. I do like the "Find My iPhone" feature.

If I need to pay a bill, pick something up or take the kids somewhere, I enter it into my calendar and it's now on my phone and all my computers!

Mobile Me is expensive but you can find it cheaper on the Net. I don't worry about the cost because in the long run it has helped me avoid paying late fees on bills and reminded me of very important events or things that I need to do.

If you are busy and have allot going on and use it like I do, it's priceless!

Perfect way of handling it! Learn how to use it well, then go for the trial of MM (free for 2 months!), so you can have a better understanding of the full use of MM features and then decide if you want it or not...

I've had a website since the late 1990s, so that feature of Mobile Me seems restrictive. I tried it some time ago for Back To My Mac but I couldn't get it to work. Syncing services seemed problematic. I didn't need another Email address. You can probably see where this is going. Actually, no.

Anyway, instead of paying $50-100/year I ended up buying a Mac mini with Snow Leopard Server for far more money. The VPN service gives me reliable "Back to my Mac", and I've now got syncing of address book and calendars for my wife and myself. I don't have it set up for mail, but that would be an option if I wanted it. It also gives unlimited (subject to my local drives) file storage. While on vacation this summer I'd transfer 2-3 GB of photo images back home every night from the hotel's wifi.

I have mobile me and love it. I have come to rely on it to be honest. I suppose I could get away with not using it and say using googles applications but then I don't want to :)

Mm

The web-based email service is garbage. Craps out 3x a day. The iPhone mail service craps out less often but still has glitches fairly often. Every few days I get email from "1969" with no sender and no subject and no way of deleting it. I have to reset the phone and it goes away. The mail server is occasionally unavailable. I don't have those problems with the free email services.

The other features, the syncing, etc. are great.

How do you get your "ToDos" on your phone? This is the one piece of MobileMe that I've been disappointed with.

i am on trial now and really dont think its worth it.

I MAY consider getting it if i buy a second mac. Perhaps the calendar syncing might be very nice.

I still cant understand why you cant have multiple e-mail inboxes.
Synced just like having Mail.app but in the cloud, with separate inboxes for each account.

Also the sync bookmarks thing is a good idea; unfortunately it only works on safari. AND theres a free programme called X-Marks which is 10x better.

Those wanting mobile me:
G-Mail : email with push along with contacts and calender with GSync
x Marks: sync bookmarks on any platform on any browser
Flickr : Go pro if you really love lots of features
Dropbox: refer some friends and increase your 2GB allowance, still 2GB is perfect for most people. If you "really" wanted iDrive for backing up files, then you should get Crashplan instead, iDrive sucks compared to Crashplan, plus Crashplan is UNLIMITED : )

Someone else mentioned some cheap alternatives to 'find my phone'.

Cliff notes; unless you are obsessed with the 'nice, clean looks' of mobile me
