Hey all, as u know, for students only. Around may 26, apple will give free iPod touches with new iMac purchases so I want to see how Many people are not buying the iMac now and waiting 3 weeks.

Post here if u are waiting, I don't know of I should wait or buy my iMac this Saturday lol

I am waiting, but I would like to know if you get a free iPod and a student discount, or do you have to choose between a student discount of a free iPod?

I didn't think about that, do u really need to choose between the iPod and the student discount? If I have to choose then ill take the student discount.

No need to choose, you get both :)

Wow, that is great. Does the amount of the student discount depend on school, or is it the same regardless? Also, I called Apple store and they told me that the student discount is anywhere from $50 to $200. I configured the iMac online (Apple's site Education Store) and the difference between a regular price and the student price is $135. $2,349 (reg. price) vs. $2,214 (student price). What am I missing? 3.4GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7, 2TB Serial ATA Drive, everything else is default.

The low end 21" gets a $50 discount, the rest get a $100.

MBP's get a $100 discount for the 13" and base 15" model. The higher end 15" and 17" models get a $200 discount.

I picked up a 27" yesterday, and received the $100 education discount.

Hmm, that is even more confusing because I got the $134 education discount on the Apple's site.

Those numbers don't sound right. $2349? Apple doesn't sell anything at that price point unless you have 27" configured with some BTO

May have added Applecare? I know students get a pretty heavy discount on it.

Also waiting for the free iPod deal too.. using it as a little subsidy cause as a student quite a tight budget, going for the base 27, selling the iPod, should be able to net it for ~1600 after tax :)

Yep, it is 27" 3.4GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7, 2TB Serial ATA Drive, everything else is default.

No, no Applecare, just 27" 3.4GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7, 2TB Serial ATA Drive, everything else is default. Speaking of iPods, what kind are we going to get?

If I remember correctly (bought 3 years ago with the deal) you can buy any of the iPods but you get a rebate amount based on the 8GB iTouch (less of a rebate if you go with the classic, in which case you get a rebate for that retail price)

Can anyone actually confirm this? I do believe we still actually pay taxes on the iPod which the rebate does not refund also.

that's the way it was with me when i bought a mbp some years back. i paid for the computer and the ipod but got a rebate (i still paid taxes) for $200 a couple weeks later.

Just checked it out seems like you get a $20 education discount on the processor upgrade and a $15 discount for doing the HD compared to no discount

Well u can't upgrade the processor in the base 27 anyway so doesn't matter

What is the discount for AppleCare?

$139 for a student and $199 without

Worth every penny IMO, sent in my 3 year old 24 inch yesterday because of a screen issue, they are replacing the screen and giving me a new hard drive because of some bad sectors (upgraded it to a free 500gb too instead of 320gb), $784 without Applecare, free :)

Does the promotion definitely start at the end of May? I graduate June 12, so there's a limited window in which I can still take advantage of the student deals (and my 2007 MacBook is on its way out).

2008 - Tuesday June 3rd
2009 - Tuesday May 26th
2010 - Tuesday May 25th

Best bet for 2011 would be either the 24th of May or the 31st of May based on the historic dates

Also waiting... :) My current iPod 5G Video just stopped playing sound out of both channels, what a coincidence.. Still ordered a new jack stick though, 3£ including shipping from Hong Kong, that's manageable.. :D

But a new iPod for waiting 3 weeks, oh yeah.. I'll also have time to read about the new models in the mean time.

well for me theres nothing more to read about the imac and im going to buy mine tomorrow and not wait 3 more weeks, again ,its not like its super easy and super free, u have to pay for it and then wait for a rebate.

My experience with Apple and rebates is that they're quite fast. You submit electronically and you can get your rebate within 2-3 weeks.

yea but i dont want to wait another 3 weeks for that deal to come besides i dont need an ipod.

Yeah if I wasn't on a tight budget i'd buy mine already, but even though i'm not going to use the iPod, paying taxes (~$33) for it in Canada and reselling it for just under Apple's price you'll end up getting the iMac for near $300 cheaper including the student discount.

doesnt matter , im on a tight budget and i dont have another 240 dollars to pay along with the a $1700 i have to pay for my imac.

I'm not trying to argue with you, i'm sure in every thread you see on Macrumors they will say if you need it now, buy it now. I've been waiting about 6 months for this update and another 3 weeks is nothing as my setup works fine.

The LOGICAL thing to do if you've got a setup that works is to wait for the iPod and sell it, if you want to save money. I also don't have the extra money for the iPod, just happened to know someone looking to buy one of them and they were willing to wait to get it for ~25% off.
