I'm proudly going to wait for teh next version, while fully enjoying my first version. Life sucks too much to wait a whole year for a gadget to become a little better.

That's my plan. Of course I'm going to wait for the next version, anyone would be silly not to. While I'm waiting, I'll have my rev a iPhone to use to search the web and look for email updates regarding rev b. Should be SWEET!!!

I would LOVE to have an iPhone (it'll be part of history, ya know ;) )
but it's too expensive and I can't afford a cell phone right now.

My first cell phone WILL be an iPhone though, I assure you.

Think Expensive

Good plan. Same here. If you can afford it now, its better you just GET it in my opinion. Odds are it will become a little silly to see post after post of people wondering when the next version will be coming out. Here's the deal, I'm pretty darn sure Apple will release an iPhone at the end/beginning of the year. But, I don't think THAT iPhone will compete with THIS iPhone. It'll likely be the size of the Nano, and will $250 or maybe less. No doubt it'll make people flip out.

I'm sure THIS iPhone will likely meet its replacement more toward May-June 2008. By that time, built-out fo the HSDPA will be pretty damn good, and iPhone will get a video-chat boost from it. We'll see though.

Do people really think the 2nd generation iPhone will be out 3-4 months after the 1st generation comes out?
The life span on cellphones is very VERY short here in Europe. After a year or so they are more or less given away. After 2 years the model is gone.
Given that, I think we will see a Rev B after around the same time as the Euro phone is introduced.

Im waiting for all the details to come out. I am not opposed to getting a Rev A, but its just too much stuff in the air at this point. Im not paying hundreds of dollars for surprises .

For myself here in the US, I tend to keep my phone for the two year contract, and then look at the next best thing. Apple may change that for me and others.

I have never changed phones mid-contract - but I would hope that AT&T will simply extend the contract by two years if a newer and more capable iPhone were to hit the market a year later.

I've been with Cingular for a couple of years, and they seem to mark our lines as eligible for discount upgrades and free phones every 5-6 months, even though we buy phones with the 2-year commitment/discount. That's in the case where they are actually subsidizing the purchase cost. They say they do that depending on how much you're spending with them and your payment history. So assuming you have a data plan and reasonable number of minutes a month, you should be fine by the time iPhone II is out.

Personally, I would love to be able to wait for the next version. But I can't. This thing is way too cool now.

i'll wait for 2nd gen or even 3rd depends how this 1st gen goes .. to be honest, I would rather have a very minimalistic phone done by apple's design genius, than this high-tech touch screen novelty that seems to be capable of doing almost everything half as good as hundreds of alternatives in the market, except ofcourse, the ipod function .. absolutely in love with iphone's ipod. if they ever decide to sell it on its own i'll be in line first.
