I consider my self a technology buff who likes to purchase the latest and greatest from the top companies. I also consider my self a stickler for customer service and do not mind a company screwing the pooch sometimes, but do mind, the company not being able to realize that they screwed the pooch and not really giving a damn about it.

I will start this off by saying I am not what many refer to as an Apple fan boy. I have the same gripes and complaints that many of you have voiced on this message board, but what I can say is apple knows how to do customer service right, and where I'm coming from, if you take care of the customer the rest will follow.

I am writing this as a result of an experience I had with my iPad, order, but make no doubt about it I have owned macs for many years now and have have utilized the complete spectrum of Apples tech, support, and customer service lines, and have been equally impressed with their commitment to providing excellent customer service.

I ordered an iPad on May 10th and was notified once ordering that it would arrive in 5-7 days. Once the order confirmation arrived I was instructed that it would be delivered between the 18th and 22nd -fair enough. Today I received tracking information indicating that my iPad was on track to be delivered on the 25th. This was disappointing to me because I had the opportunity to pick on up at a local reseller sooner, and was leaving on the 23rd for Zurich. I called Apple to see what they could do and they informed me their hands were tied, but offered to through in free case fro my troubles.

Totally awesome and totally above an beyond, but typical for one of the greatest companies in the world.

They decide to give you a case it cost them $2 to produce when you are spending over $500 with them, and you call that amazing?

Sorry.... glad your satisfied but I would still be pissed if I was told it would be delivered earlier than it actually was.

They didn't have to do a damn thing, and most companies wouldn't have.

Boy, some of you people can really find the downside to any situation...

Arrives in 5-7 days? Ahem... lrn2read. SHIPS and DELIVERS are completely different. You ordered the ipad, it then took 5-7 days to make and prepare to send to fedex. FedEx then received it and gave you a window of delivery time. Once apple gives it to FedEx they've satisfied their end. Have fun with your case and inability to read and understand.

As an AAPL stockholder, I resent you sucking on Apple's teat for no good reason.

Please feel free to cease wasting oxygen at any time...

To the OP, it's little things like this that make the difference isn't it? I had a similar experience with Tom Bihn and my iPad bag. They didn't have the colour I ordered, I picked another, and they threw in a few accessories for being understanding. What the accessories cost is neither here nor there it's the fact they cared that I was inconvenienced that mattered.

I can understand your emotions. We are all suckers for free stuff but looking at Apple profits I'd say they fool you with every purchase. You'd be much better off if you were buying non-Apple products without free gimmicks.

Last time I checked, for profit companies are allowed to ... profit. Would suck if Apple ran out of R&D money to come up with their next cool device.

Sure Apple is allowed to profit. You care about Apple profits I care about my own wellbeing. I think for a consumer, the choice is really simple. Here is a simple example. One can buy, an iPad for $500 and get free case. Another option would be to buy a slate computer from, say, HP for $400 and a case for $10 (iPad is a very special case though as it seems that Apple skimped on absolutely everything their from RAM and USB ports to case).

I bought AAPL stock a few years ago to mitigate the effect of their profit margins on my purchases. :D

Nope. You're wrong. For a while Apple was advertising "Delivers in 5-7 business days". They've only recently changed to "ships in 7-10 days."

Only time Apple gave someone I know something for free was when they called up and asked why there was no USB cable included with their printer. Apple sent a Belkin printer USB cable free of charge (free shipping).

That's when I told this person printers DON'T come with cables.

Maybe you missed the news due to your busy schedule of trolling MacRumors, but HP doesn't currently offer a slate computer. Not for the absurdly speculative price of $400. Not at all.

You can now go back to your fantasy world where everyone hates Apple with a white-hot passion like you do.

Agree.

HP Slate with no currently defined operating system (Windows 7 ditched for WebOS?), price (none yet), release date (if it even gets released) or target market (how will this differ from past tablets if it runs Win7?)

That was just a generic example which holds true through the entire line of Apple products. You can replace HP with DELL or Archos or whatever you want if for some reason you do not like HP.

It only holds true if you live in that fantasy world I mentioned.

But keep trying to run your tired line of FUD here. It's pretty comical to watch.

What is this nonsense?

What is this nonsense?

I see. Apparently it's still a news to some people that Apple charges more for their hardware while skimping on most everything. Did you know that iPad comea with less RAM than some Android phones?
