My issue with Android tablets several years ago was the battery life was horrible, especially stand by life. I had no issues with the apps and games I used. I don't know how battery life holds up on the top tier Android tablets nowadays, but if battery life (mainly stand by) is still an issue, then I'm going to stick with the iPad.

The only experience I've had with the latest Android tablets, is the Amazon Fire tablets, and the battery life holds up well. But it's heavily modified and has low specs.

Does anyone have a recent Samsung tablet? How's the battery life on it?

It was a great tablet. Minus the battery stand by life.
It's early but battery life on my tab s4 is very impressive I must say

I have the keyboard, it is useful and great for watching vids too.
Video is great on the tab s4, browsing is fine too.
That's about all I do on my tab apart from the odd comic.
I have book cover just to stand up and I'm tempted by the keyboard. How's it space wise as the ipad Pro 10. 5 one is rather cramped

I think Sony put out a half decent Android tablet at one stage. It's the same with watches - what's happening with Android Wear these days?

It's fine in landscape mode.

It's a bit cramped and less keyboard like compared to my old TAB S 10.5 Keyboard but compared to typing on the tablet, it's brilliant.
Compared to my old 10.5 keyboard, the design is way better, cupped squircles vs chiclets are better imo.
Incorporating it into the book cover style is so much better
The lack of a palm rest isn't really missed, having to recharge the keyboard won't be missed either.

I can't compare it to an iPad keyboard as I have only used the iPad with the on screen keyboard.

The only annoying thing for me is I sometimes have to seat the tablet a couple of times for the cover to work, but this is a 1/100 event.
My tablet is mostly used in bed.

The newer Pixel Slate tablet was such a bust that it doesn't inspire my confidence in many Android tablets. If anything, I think Samsung is the only one that makes decent ones.

How about standby? That's what I'm mostly concerned about.

In the normal tablet the iPad is king but if you're going to step to the iPad Pro I think the Pixel slate is more compelling, in either case ~1k for a tablet is a hard sell

That's the thing my tab s4 cost me £550 so not too bad in comparison

Guess it's worse for me as my pro cost double my tab

The Pro is expensive and that's why I think the slate is better

It runs Android apps, Linux apps, and Chrome OS all on an Intel processor it's just more flexible, however I understand that if you live in Apple land none of that is really relevant

Yeah I did live in apple land no more

I now choose what is better value for money and not be tied down on one company

For smart consumers, bang for the buck isn't there for high priced ARM tablets and most people already have phablets. Reality is most people don't need more than a $100 Amazon Fire HD 10. Something like a Galaxy Tab S5e with OLED is nicer but not 4x more costly nicer. And, iOS on iPads is too gimped and cost even more.

I think only Samsung has tablets that could be called good, but still not as good as many of the iPads. Did other companies just decide not to bother with tablets anymore?

I think the Samsung (especially the oled ones) are good but the os which is android isn’t.

Software.

Android has never really been optimised for anything other than smartphones. Whilst Apple's effort for tablets is woeful (iOS makes the iPad just perform like a giant iPhone), at least it's functional.

It’s actual smooth than android.

I was initially excited about the Slate but every single review I've watched or read have proclaimed it lackluster at best and a streaming pile at worst. It's also presently $400 more than a comparatively equipped Pixelbook, which itself is pretty expensive for what it is.

Consequently, I went the Pixelbook route and am selling my iPP 12.9 setup.

I'll say right off the bat that both are more than I'm willing to pay having said that when I look for stuff in the 4 figure range I'm not looking for the best at what it is rather I want it to be as flexible as possible even if it compromises user experience.

Maybe google is right and the tablet isn't the wave of the future but Apple is betting heavily on it so theirs are just better than everyone else's the next half decade will tell.

I had an iPad Pro 10.5 64gb which I loved. It had the dreaded white spot plus I wanted to go back to a Samsung tablet as I missed the OLED screen.

I now have a Tab S4 which I think for movie watching and youtube is fantastic, BUT everything else I am finding not as good as the Pro.

When it comes to on screen typing I find I really struggle with the keyboard. I use MS Office for when I'm not not on my work computer and I find that Tab S4 not as good as the iPad.

I'm seriously thinking of going back to Apple and getting the Pro 11 but I really think I will miss the screen when I'm watching movies. I am so torn what to do as the Tab S4 is not a bad tablet but it just can't match the iPad when it comes to work.

What about getting their keyboard attachment? Or try a different keyboard app?
