It’s not even the same size as the original SE. It’s 4.7” instead of 4.0”. To me it seems more like a rebranded iPhone 8 with a better processor and camera. If it were in the original body of the SE instead of the iPhone 8 then that would be another story.

Because I think in the same way that 5/5S users were excited for their fave form factor to get an update, the same applies to some 6/6S/7/8 users this time around.

If it ends up being the size of the 8 (small 8, not plus), it'll be pretty boring.
Because for some it's a great option for the visually disabled. Something Apple does continue to support with it's accessibility features. For the blind, a face id isn't the best. The continuation of the existence of the home button is a great thing, so that series of phones is highly recomended.

For others, they just don't need all the advancements, and don't need to pay for what they don't want. They still get a phone from Apple, stay in the ecosystem, and not pay thru the nose for what they don't need or want.

This. It's not so much that I like the aesthetic. Barring bezel sizes and notch, all current iPhones pretty much look the same to me: rectangular slabs of glass with rounded edges. However, I do prefer the smaller size, TouchID and LCD. Getting it for $400-500 is just a bonus. I would've willingly paid mainstream iPhone pricing ($649) for this.

Mom has an SE and I often encounter bugs in apps with off-base touch targets. Meanwhile, the 4.7" display is still well supported.

Small size and modern internals at a reasonable price.

These.

The phone is just one tool in my toolbox of Apple gizmos.

The way I use my phone, there's maybe 10 apps/functions that get a workout in the course of a day, a handful of others every now and again, but don't game, watch videos, rarely use maps. So don't need/want OLED, octo-lens camera (I use a DSLR). The 11 and Pro Max are too big. Don't want to spend $1,000 for a similar sized phone with my perceived zero value add.

So, nice to have something in a size I like, not over-priced, modern-ish guts. If it had FaceID I'd be willing to pay a higher price, but can live with TouchID.

Because we're all different. That's why. Choice is good.

I think it’s supposed to be boring. It’s for people who don’t really care about living on the bleeding technological edge.

To be fair a lot of people I know and I dare say people in general would say we are ‘boring’ for being interested in phones and talking about them on the internet lol.

Nearly everybody I know uses an iPhone, but the minute you start talking about the features and specs and you can see them glaze over.

I'd agree that it's largely the fact that it's a lower-cost alternative to some of the higher-tech phones that still gives modern hardware and software. I have an OG SE and it's perfect for my needs, as I don't need something with high-tech features or the best camera but something that can just communicate reliably, which I'd say it succeeds at with flying colors.

Does Apple offer another current release phone under 5”. An economical one?
Well there's the original SE, I don't know if that's still in production though.
