It will replace my 6 perfectly...if my 6 ever breaks.
same , i have been using my iphone 6 since it came out, without case or screen protector . It hold up pretty well . I have drop it multiple times (including water ) . My only problem now is the storage 16gb . This new se will be great option for me . I don't like current iphones they are big and heavy . I love the weight of the iphone 6

Because some people are holding on to touchID and bezels until their last dying breath.

The rest are just normal people wanting an affordable phone.

It might be a ‘boring’ and outdated design but it is reliable, solid and highly functional. For just £399 one will essentially be getting the fastest phone in the world. It will be perfect right now in the poor global economic climate, where people will be looking for the best ‘bang for buck’. In the UK you could get the iphone SE2 and a 2018 ipad pro 11 for the price of a single iphone 11 pro!

I am hoping that with A13 plus a smaller screen it will have great battery life and if the price in uk is £399 even better I will be ordering soon as possible

Probably more like ~$499.00. I’d be surprised if they come in at ~$399, but I don’t believe will be north of ~$500 either.

My friend is getting SE 2 for two reasons:

1) Prefers smaller form factor (He uses iPhone X right now)
2) He hates Face ID and misses Touch ID

Price, of course.

If people were interested in small form factor, they would have lost interest once it was revealed to be 4.7".

If people were interested because of Touch ID, they would have bought the iPhone 8 in 2017, 2018, or 2019.

The low-cost iPhone SE attracted a lot of existing iPhone users with older models and Android switchers. The SE2 will do the same.

It’s not even the same size as the original SE. It’s 4.7” instead of 4.0”. To me it seems more like a rebranded iPhone 8 with a better processor and camera. If it were in the original body of the SE instead of the iPhone 8 then that would be another story.

Its around the same size as my 7, but with modern internals, no ugly notch, and touch ID. Best part is the price. When it comes to phones I am not a pro user. I just need something fast and stable that works. That is where the SE comes in.

Any pro stuff will go to my ipad or gaming PC

I'm excited to see what kind of battery life it will have with that SOC and a small low res screen. It could be interesting.

iPhone SE has been discontinued so if one needs a new iPhone then 4.7" is the smallest at this point in time.

As for the iPhone 8, for me it wasn't a big enough jump to upgrade from the iPhone 7. Sure, it had heterogeneous cores but it wasn't like the A10 was slow for my use. iPhone 8 also had the same 2GB RAM as the iPhone 7.

Personally, if Apple had released an iPhone "SE" for $649 back in 2018 with similar specs to the XR (A12, 3GB RAM, dual SIM eSIM+Nano SIM) in iPhone 8 body, I would've updated already.

Because every phone apple currently makes is a lot more expensive than in years gone past - they do not have an entry level iPhone at the moment.

A lot of people don't care about 3 cameras, IR scanning, the notch, massive screens, etc. and just want something that runs iOS so it will integrate with the rest of their stuff.

Right now, no cheap iPhone is an impediment to watch adoption - because a lot of people use iPads and Macs for their other stuff.

I could quite easily live without the phone entirely, if the watch could link to a cellular (as in voice calls) iPad. All of the flashy new stuff the high end iPhones have, I'd rather buy an iPad for.

Aren’t the 11 pro and 8 essentially the same physical size? At this point, the reasons have to be price, touchid, or weight.

I could understand there being some excitement if there was some design change e.g. full screen on a budget phone. But from what I’ve seen so far it just looks like a step back, design wise anyway.

Its essentially a refreshed iPhone 8 with faster processor, better camera and improved battery life, and according to some rumours it might even be cheaper then what Apple is currently selling the 8 for.

So great value for money.

I would have loved if this was offered in the same colors as the regular 11 or XR, but from the rumours it seems there will only be black, white and red.

Design wise maybe, spec wise it’s a big deal for those with an SE, 6, 6S, 7 or 8... That’s a lot of people who don’t want or need a full screen display. No one needs that if they aren’t consuming media if offers no advantage other than worse battery life and more risk of potential expensive repairs, where as the older design is easy to repair, and relatively cheap in comparison outside of AppleCare.

It’s going to potentially be the fastest phone available, period. And future proof for probably the next 5+ years, for not a lot of money for the latest phone tech with a screen many still prefer. Those people being as I mentioned, non media consuming people, older iPhone buyers, younger iPhone buyers etc.

I fall in this boat. I have computers for consuming media and, while I do occasionally watch a video or two on my phone, it remains largely for communication and nothing more. It's nice to have modern, up to date hardware in a package that isn't designed for media consumption.

I'm talking as a current SE owner, btw ;)

Always beating a dead horse with these threads.

The SE always stood for "special edition". It just so happened that the "special edition" form factor at the time was the 4" 5S body. Apple had a lot of them still in supply, similar to the 4.7" iPhone 8 shells today.

While a lot of people, myself included, appreciated the 4" form factor it was never meant to be advertised as a small phone. It was always the budget, entry level iPhone. That is why they will most likely use the SE name again.

It will probably take the crown for the best selling iPhone out of the current ones offered. For potentially $399 people can have the latest chip, a good camera, and updates for 4+ years.

Wonder how long my SE will last, hardware wise. Then, when will Apple support for the SE last?

guess I’m going to find out. I wonder if I get an iPad Pro with cell service if I can go without a phone? My watch has cell, so I may go without a phone once this one bites it.
