What makes some of you all think...
MBA will have all of these

1. Cheaper price than it is now
2. 13.3 inch screen with 1440X 900 resolution
3. At least 128GB SD
4. i3 Processor
5. 4GB RAM
6. 2 USB port
7. SD card slot

You all want of this for around 1000-1200 dollars. What are you all smoking... ? It won't HAPPEN! People these days are so smoking. First iPad with retina display... and now this laptop?

Some people are just dreaming.

I don't know who "You all" encompasses but I am smoking some "Mr. Nice Guy" at the moment, very tasty... ;) :p

Quiet of few people are commenting that they want all of those features for the 1000-1200 dollars price. Not happening!

I happen to have an early model of the new MBA and it's so flat it might even be used to roll a joint. Just so you know.

I this more reasonable:

13" Screen
1440 x 900 resolution
128GB ssd (or in-house storage technology)
core2duo 2.2ghz
nvidia 320m (or successor)
7+ hour battery
4GB ram
2 usb ports (or mini usb)
1 mini displayport
Smaller, lighter & thinner
For $1400 ~ $1600

+1 :D

though as for pricing, I'm thinking more like:
US$1800 for the 13.3" and
US$1400 for the 11.6"

this quite possible because the new SSD card 'hard disc' is somewhat cheaper than regular SSD's from what I can gather.

who knows how this will translate into Australian $ though I suspect not much more than an additional $100 given the current rate of exchange.
thus Aus$1900-1950 for 13.3" and Aus$1500-ish for the smaller form factor.

and I also believe it'll be bye-bye to the hard drive as we currently know it

Whatever it may be. I believe having an iMac, iPhone, & iPad is a better combo than grabbing an MBA

If you travel than the MBP, iPhone, & iPad is your combo.

I guess if you want an ultra thin computer instead of the limited aspects of iOS on the iPad then the MBA is for you.

I find the MBA is for more business type people who wants an actually computer but in a very thin design for portability.

The iPads is great but sometimes the business type people need an actual computer to do other things. Especially flash on Safari.

Purple kush.

Why won't it happen? It's certainly doable, the Sony Z has all that, their last on sale price was $1220. No, wait it has that and MORE; higher resolutiojn, hdmi port, 3 usb, expresscard slot...

Maybe Apple's Mac customer base needs to demand more.

3. At least 128GB SSD
4. i3 Processor
5. 4GB RAM

These three would get my attention, but what I really want is a "hybrid" with a touch screen that runs both iOS and OS X apps.

My needs are simple.

Sony Vaio Zs arent even a macbook air competitor despite what everyone on this forum seems to think. Vaio zs are thick. A realistic comparison is an air and a Voodoo envy (or whatever the really thin one was called) or Dell adamo if you are comparing machines across OSs.

I see half you point here. The Z is thicker, but weighs the same. However, Sony also gives 5 times the performance. I wouldn't mind the Air being thicker, if it would be the same weight of the current version and give me the performance of the top of the freaking line MBP!

PLEASE APPLE.. FOR THE LOVE OF ALMIGHTY!! MOVE THE VENTS OFF THE BOTTOM OF THE AIR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Theres somthing to chew on..

Considering that iOS apps are run on a completely different architecture than OS X, I would really really doubt that this is possible. At all. In the words of the OP: what are you smoking?

Hypothetically they could also put an ARM chip on the MoBo and run them concurrently

Absolutely wrong.

It's about weight. This market wants a light computer, powerful as possible with ample ports, great keyboard and screen long BEFORE they care whether it's .25, .5 or 1" thick.

Think about it. What's more of a 'wow' and benefit factor in your bag, a super light notebook or a super thin notebook, does a half inch thicker make a noticeable difference? No.

Look at the facts ....

... you can have a super thin and light MacBook Air with 2gb ram, low res screen, one usb port, no dvd, no blu ray, no hdmi, no sd, no expresscard slot, 128gb ssd max, and short battery life...

OR

you can have a super light, Sony Z, WITH 4gb ram standard, 8gb optional, 128 ssd standard, up to 512 ssd optional, HDMI, THREE usb ports, dvd or blu ray, sd card and express card, longer battery life, HD screen ... but it's .5" thicker

The punch line ... they cost about the same

C'mon it's a no brainer, end of discussion!! :D

Actually, not the 8GB Ram, 512 GB SSD, BluRay, HD version. They add up to roughly 2.5 times the MacBook Air price tag.

When "costing about the same" you get the following (more than MBA): 2GB Ram, gimmicky ports and cards, DVD drive and thickness, not yet the carbon fiber though. What a deal.

This is where most people happens to be wrong.

Smaller doesn't mean cheaper when talking about fully featured notebooks.

I wouldn't be surprised if, and only if, a smaller version of the MacBook Air should emerge that it will be more expensive than the bigger one giving its form factor.
