Actually, not the 8GB Ram, 512 GB SSD, BluRay, HD version. They add up to roughly 2.5 times the MacBook Air price tag.

When "costing about the same" you get the following (more than MBA): 2GB Ram, gimmicky ports and cards, DVD drive and thickness, not yet the carbon fiber though. What a deal.

You're not fooling me, so why do you choose to fool yourself, hoping others will believe your misleading words?

Yea, sure was a gimmick when over the weekend when I had my 1TB Western Digital hard drive in one usb, a 16gb usb stick in another usb port and my 3G internet stick in the other ... allowing me to quickly move files, back up, all while connected to the net. NO MBP and NO MBA allows you to do this, not enough usb ports ...

... but wait, the 17", at double the weight has 3 usb ports so I must be wrong? Nope, Mac's usb ports are so close together that you can't use them all at once, LOL. fail fail fail. Sure buy a usb adapter ... while you're at it buy an hdmi adapter too, cuz no MacBook has that either. So now, to get 3 workable usb ports and hdmi on my 5 - 6.5 pound macbook I get to buy usb and hmdi adapters along with my new computers price, nice!

YEP, Sony putting 3 PROPERLY spaced usb ports + an hdmi port + sd card slot + expresscard slot WHAT A GIMMICK!!! Shouldn't we write Sony and complain!!! Their tricking us with all those ports and features in a 3lb notebook.

I'm glad Apple doesn't do gimmicks ... we've got to be better off with 1 or 2 closely spaced usb ports, no hdmi and no we don't want plastic or to pay $50 more for carbon fiber, that's right Apple keep pushing out those metal notebooks with the super sharp edges ... so we can cut our wrists and get this pain over with.

Some of you have really pulled the wool over your own eyes, why I have no idea.

"I love Apple no matter what they make or do and that's the truth so there".

Snap out of it.

So, apart from my usage of the word "gimmick" (which it is to me but YMMV) you agree with my post?

Conceding that you're misleading telling people that you could get 512 GB SSD, Blu-Ray and 8 GB Ram in a Sony Vaio Z for the price of a Macbook Air?

Who the ***** are you to accuse me of misleading people on this forum?

To try and look better in a debate you resort to insults and lie? Nice.

a) read the whole thread

b) read my words - Sony Z, WITH 4gb ram standard, 8gb optional, 128 ssd standard, up to 512 ssd optional, HDMI, THREE usb ports, dvd or blu ray, sd card and express card, longer battery life, HD screen.

c) see where I wrote in my post $1220, see my signature where it reads I paid $2905 for the max'd out version.

You should be embarrassed.

Question my words? Great, I like a good debate. Question my character? Buckle up.

Losers quickly resort to lies when their previous comments are made with no foundation. Have you even tried both notebooks? Or do you just like sitting around behind a computer typing words about things you nothing about?

It's posts like yours that COMPLETELY mislead anyone who reads them.

Either way, put me on your ignore list and have a nice day.

Are you alright? Did you not read? Save yourself even more embarrassment and READ before you post.

WITH 4gb ram standard, 8gb optional, 128 ssd standard, up to 512 ssd optional

More importantly, STOP taking my words out of context, and STOP insinuating I'm lying. I'm not.

Click the ignore button and move along, this conversation is over your head.

I'm not sure why I'm getting into this discussion - other than maybe boredom - but the one thing to remember when having any of these "my laptop/pc is better than your laptop/pc" discussions is that the Apple offering comes with OSX and any other does not.

So the discussion becomes moot if you really want OSX. In the case of the MacBook Air, I and most others on these forums want OSX. (hence the name MACrumors.com)

Don't get me wrong, I do not think badly of Windows7 (except were WiFi is concerned but that's a whole other discussion/rant) and in fact, my desktop PC is a full-on, bad-ass, Windows7 running, over-clocked, gaming PC. Also, I am a computer consultant and spend a lot of time installing, networking and troubleshooting Windows PC's and servers. Overall, Windows is okay.

But again, on this site, it's OSX that people usually want. Yes your new Sony VAIO Z is a sweet little laptop that certainly out-specs any current MacBook Air. Maybe Apple will address this on Wednesday (we can only hope!) and maybe they wont. Historically, Apple hasn't always seemed to care about being the performance leader when it comes to their laptops. They do, however, build pretty solid, well engineered products, with a style that screams "I'm a Mac!" And, most importantly, they run OSX.

For me, that is the most important thing. I want my super-thin, light laptop to run OSX. The software I choose to run on it is either only available for OSX or I think it runs better on OSX (an example would be the Remote Desktop Client for OSX - it's so much better and more stable than the one that comes with Windows. I realize that I may be spending more money than an equivalently spec'd Windows laptop, (the so-called Apple Tax) but I love my Air and its thin, aluminum construction and... it runs OSX.

So after all of that, I hope your new Sony Z brings you all kinds of happiness just like I hope whatever gets released on Wednesday by Apple brings me all kinds of happiness! Maybe it will even be Magical Happiness!;)

Later all...

?

People want a 11 inch version at that price, But it wont be an i3 It'll be a lowvoltage i7 and the SSD that was shown in the "Pictures" is a modified version that will be cheaper that price and those specs are very feasible.

I used to care about OS X, but Windows 7 and Office 2010 really made it kind of a moot point. I would still prefer to use a mac, but on some level I feel that Apple needs to add some pretty major new features in Lion for me to actually be willing to buy a lesser computer for more money.

This market wants a light computer, powerful as possible with ample ports, great keyboard and screen long BEFORE they care whether it's .25, .5 or 1" thick.

No. The "market" does not want that. If they did, the MBP line would have been dead on arrival.

The "market" wants machines that get the job done. Whatever that job may be. The Air, in its current and future state, is not that machine, speaking strictly specs. It's a toy. That's fine, but let's not kid ourselves into thinking that this mythical "market" is demanding the Air. From what I can tell, people are buying MacBook, MacBook Pro, and iPad. People with money to burn are buying Air. The "market" does not have money to burn in this economy.

Again, I say the Air should replace the current MacBook entirely, at or around its price point. Spec-wise it CAN be done. Assuming the SSD is a little over $300 wholesale, the RAM is about $100, and given the other components, they COULD release an Air for $1199 and still make a tidy profit. I really get miffed when I see people deluded by Apple's pricing methodology that don't understand when they're being conned. The Air never has been worth $1800.

What makes some of you all think...
MBA will have all of these

1. Cheaper price than it is now
2. 13.3 inch screen with 1440X 900 resolution
3. At least 128GB SD
4. i3 Processor
5. 4GB RAM
6. 2 USB port
7. SD card slot

You all want of this for around 1000-1200 dollars. What are you all smoking... ? It won't HAPPEN! People these days are so smoking. First iPad with retina display... and now this laptop?

Some people are just dreaming.

Well, looks like those "smokers" were pretty close - even on price.
