The OP (me) did not say that LTE is obsolete once 5G comes out. He (me) said that 4G phones would be obsolete...as in “out-of-date.” Which they will be. The 5G phones can access 5G and LTE networks. 4G phones will not.

That isn't really obsolete then.....

When AT&T shutdown the original iPhone's 2G network two years ago, that would probably be considered obsolete. But, if LTE iPhones will still be used and sold after the 5G iPhone drops, I personally wouldn't the LTE ones obsolete, and I doubt most people would....

But getting to the original question on why by the 2019 LTE iPhone when there might be a 5G iPhone sometime in the next few years, there were plenty of posts that made valid arguments on why buy an LTE iPhone in 2019 imo....

I would say lets wait and see what the 2019 iPhone before making buying decision...

There will probably be lots of reasons not to buy a new iPhone in 2019, but I suspect that Apple making a 5G iPhone sometime in the next few years will not be an important enough reason not to buy now.

iphones between gen to 7 were big jumps. But iPhones starting 2017 to present the jumps are really small. The “rush” and excitement is not the same because the phones are already great. I remember iPhone 7 lines were not as big, 8 and x was really small. Xs was none existent. My perspective was here in SoCal near San Fernando valley.

Apple marketed animoji. Who uses these. They’re fun for like 1 day but and for novelty but that’s not a feature you show off. It’s a party trick. Neat tech not shallow substance.

TBH... 5G is more a revolution on the home broadband front, and giving autonomous vehicles the speed they will need.

LTE is more than usable for the foreseeable future. Getting 5G first will be like getting a pointy hat, that says dunce.
True but I hate to see the bill for home internet on 5g. I pay 49 and I think that’s too much.

Verizon launched 5G home Wifi in a few locations so far, and it is currently about the same price that you pay. $50 if you are a Verizon Wireless subscriber.

Verizon is directly competing with cable ISPs, and has targeted locations that Comcast is king. It is different than traditional Wifi hotspot which is still inherently mobile The 5G Home Wifi is stationary and suppose to replace your home ISP.

I am not sure what the latency is like, but according to what I read, the speeds are higher than the US average @ a sustained 300Mbps with a 1000Mbps peak download speed.

We shall see I guess. I feel like they’re squeezing out the competition to up the price. Right now we only have two choices in my area.

I have two choices two, Comcast and FiOS. I switch back and forth to each of them about every six months to a year to get the "new customer" deals

Having two ISPs, you could probably do the same to get a cheaper deal.

We are are lucky though, as many people in the US only have one choice of an ISP, and can basically be treated badly and pay high rates and there is little that can be done about it.

I think that is who Verizon is targeting with its 5G home service.

No at&t has a cap here. Being a cord cutter that wouldn’t work for me. Spectrum doesn’t have a cap.
