The massive slow down includes iPhone 7 which is very new, then why buy x or 8 when we already know it will be slow down so much just few months later? X being the fastest phone now but expecting 60% speed decrease?

Apple is only slowing down phones with bad batteries. I upgrade my phone every year so it doesn’t affect me.

Lol they slow down all old phones as long as the phone doesn't have perfect new battery. You better get a new one every quarter.

It’s not going to be a problem, this will now change going forward in some way.

Apple never said they will change this approach

Apple never said they will change this approach

“Our goal is to deliver the best experience for customers, which includes overall performance and prolonging the life of their devices. Lithium-ion batteries become less capable of supplying peak current demands when in cold conditions, have a low battery charge or as they age over time, which can result in the device unexpectedly shutting down to protect its electronic components.

Last year we released a feature for iPhone 6, iPhone 6S and iPhone SE to smooth out the instantaneous peaks only when needed to prevent the device from unexpectedly shutting down during these conditions. We've now extended that feature to iPhone 7 with iOS 11.2, and plan to add support for other products in the future.“

I don’t care.

They said it! Support more soon!

As much as I agree with your feelings, didn't we have already enought threads on the argument?

I went the Android way 6 months ago and not regret one bit, to each his / her own I guess, and I do not buy the "slow down because of battery is 80%" argument.

Makes no sense that 1-year old iPhone 7’s are being throttled.

It would really help if Apple simply gave some technical information on exactly how when the throttling kicks in, but of course the vague statement from a few days ago that really told us nothing

Does the throttling begin at 90% battery capacity? 80%? 70%? Nobody knows anything this point, besides the company who hid this information from customers and only admitted they cripple device performance once they were caught red-handed by users.

Only reason I’m even considering keeping my 8+ is because it is on iOS 11.1.2, which doesn’t have the throttling virus “feature” for the 8 or X. Still might end up returning it due to Apples shadiness & lack of integrity on this issue, not sure yet...

They never said they are slowing down phone after a few months. They are talking about phones that are 2+ years old.

Base on people comments, apple just drops the CPU to unusable level like 60% drop as reported as long as it is not a perfect 100% new battery.

All phones regardless of manufacturer and OS slow down over time.

I was using my 7 plus up until last week and it hadn’t slowed down. I’d had it since launch day.

Not really, no phones slow down except apple intentionally slow you down, normally just the battery downgrade then die over time.

Yes they said it but even by their own statement these phones are at least a year old not a few months old like you are trying to say.

No, crazy many people report their pretty new iPhone 7 suddenly become an almost unusable phone after updating to iOS 11. Apple officially support this "function" for iPhone 7.

This is a scandal in my eyes, and going forward they won’t see thousands and thousands of my dollars. I also buy phones for family and planned to buy iPhone X v2 not only to myself. Fortunately now I know why our iPhones became so slow.

I am done with Apple except for Apple TV 4, but when outdated I will seek another solution as e.g. Chromecast or whatever.

It is very simple. You cannot state you have fast processors if they are clocked down and especially that fast by software - battery wear or not. At least it should be market as: “under half speed very soon”.

android phones are notorious for slowing down over time.

Good Android rom doesn't have this issue. You know it is open source so anyone can make one.

It’s funny to me how some android users are defending android but yet bashing iPhone when they own an iPhone.. go own an android and do what makes you happy.

I am not going to buy any phone if I know it's speed would be 40% after months. No matter Android or iPhone.

Never saw anyone reported randomly shut off and this new "function"solve it.

I never said that. I said that apple is doing this to prevent phones from shutting off randomly because of the batteries degrading, and would you rather your phone shut off randomly versus it still being usable but just slower?
