Instantly Bannable Offenses
These can be one-time bannable offenses for which you will not get a warning.

Insults. Direct personal insult of another member, i.e., "You are an idiot." and all the variations. Why? Because this isn't grade school. People should be able to discuss or even dispute other's posts without insulting people. And the only purpose of a post like this is to incite other people. You may dispute somebody's opinion, but not attack/flame the person who stated it. There are a lot of other non-direct-personal insults that won't necessary get you banned instantly, but depending on the context/nature may lead to post editing, post deletion, warnings, or time-outs. They include telling people to shut up, or being extremely or repeatedly rude or sarcastic. Bottom line -- don't try to tick off others.

Don't do that. ;)

Maybe I am not nerdy enough to understand the "controversy" but I don't seem to have any trouble getting along with other people who happen to have different pieces of technology than I do.

<snip passive-aggressive trolling about all the features the Driod has that are supposedly superior to the iPhone>

That was just one of the Droid threads. Then you post all these threads about the iPhone:

<snip>

I couldn't care less what phone you get. Just stop trolling the forums.

In other news, most people don't care what phone other people buy, they just get the one they want. More at 10.

That's true.

Most get what works for them. That's what's nice about having options.

It would be interesting to see how the iPhone sold if it was offered on other carriers.

On a side note, I am looking forward to the day that I, as an average consumer, can have one cell phone that can be used around the world without roaming charges and be available from any carrier. Pipe dream I know. But that would be sweet.

What do you expect, every couple of months we get a bunch of fanboys who come here and shove a new "iphone killer" down our throat, when that phone fails and becomes irrelevant as we just recently saw with the Palm Pre, the fanboys stop making noise and move on in search for the iphone killer in order to bash the iphone.

While I don't think the Droid is an iPhone killer, I do believe it shows that the Android 2.0 software, if mated to the right hardware, can be a solid competitor.

I don't think the Droid hardware is all that special. Android 2.0 is getting better but still lacks polish and sophistication. I think that the Droid would sell a lot less if the iPhone was available on the Verizon network.

The good news for us iPhone fans is that this will drive Apple to keep innovating and providing new features.

I think iPhone owners would get a long with Droid owners just fine if the Droid owners didn't come on here, an iPhone centric forum, and insult the iPhone.

They aren't Droid owners, they are just iphone and Apple haters. They are the same dudes who every 3 or so months bring forth their new iphone killer and shove it down our throats. When the hype behind that phone dies down, they jump onto the next one. Recently they went from the Palm Pre to the HTC Hero and now to the Droid!

I have the iPhone and am actually about to get the 3gs and my husband is a Droid user. We get along fine.

But, I will say that I dont spout about how I think the iPhone is better, he does like to point out all the neat tweaks the droid has that the iPhone lacks, but it does not put us at each others throats. lol

I think what the main problem is fanboys of apple get really irate sometimes when anyone says anything "bad" about the iPhone, and some of the new Droid users like to spout about the new things that the Droid possesses in front of the so called fanboys (or girls lol). After the glitz and glamour dwindles away from the Droid, just as it did with the iPhone, most of the bickering will cease. Until then, Ill keep my head low. :)

At least to me, it seems a large number of the Droid threads are actually iPhone/Apple users who offer up their unsolicited commentary on the Droid, generally in a way that is not designed to incite any form of discussion but in attempt to assert some sort of superiority for one device or the other.

Some of us are using both and happy with both, and see the merits of both.

Instead of the negativity, which there is no reason for since no one should be criticising another person's choice, we should be discussing the POSITIVE advances that are coming in the forms of all these different hardware and software options.

Let's prove we can have civil DISCUSSIONS about tech like the geeks we claim to be, instead of feeling personally attacked because of the existence of a CELLULAR PHONE.

This IS an iPhone site....so I don't expect iPhone owners to be neutral parties. But, anyone comparing the iPhone to another phone while on this forum needs to be cognisant of the fact this is an iPhone site and will find bias.

Sure. "Bias" is fine. What is not necessary is the calling of another device a "failure," "joke" etc. What could be a valid discussion of the pros and cons of an iphone competitor immediately degenerates into "nah nah I have onboard video editing and YOU DON'T" which is just silly, IMO.

Exactly. It's not wrong to like a product, but bashing another product and repeated trolling is untolerable. Droid.. We'll see when this hype die down like the Pre..
