Why did you buy your MBP

Mainly cos it's shiny...
That and the fact that for the extra money you get alot more bang for your buck. Things like the dedicated graphics and beefier processors make it worth it. Also, the big screen and generally more powerful computer.

1) More power, specifically in the realm of games. Now, I'm no big gamer at all, all I played in the past year was HL2 and EVE, but I do like to play the latter a lot so it made a lot of sense for me to get one.
2) Larger, Matte screen. I do web-design quite often, and being able to work on a nice large screen is really a joy.
3) The MB looks like a toy, the MBP looks more like a real laptop imho.

i bought a white core 2 duo macbook in december, but i found the integrated graphics lacking while driving an external monitor. i use my laptop mostly while connected to an external display, and the macbook wasn't doing such a good job with little things here and there (like exposé and dashboard). i sold it in june to get a macbook pro, and it's been much better. i really do think either laptop is fine, though. congrats on the purchase!

I cant walk into a business meeting or client presentation with a white macbook LOL.
Kiddin, simply because the screen is the optimal size and the weight difference between the mbp and macbook is negligible considering the screen and power difference.
More power per inch packed in, thats why I guess.

in all honesty that is something to consider. as ridiculous as it is, some of the less intelligent people in a meeting may equate "macbook" with "amateur" and look upon you across the table slightly less favorably.
its a similar reason that good territorial salespeople always drive nice cars. it is indicative of success and people like to be in the presence of success and do business with successful people.

Anyways:
1) Design: Nothing compares to this piece of hardware, stylish, professional looking, well built, and modern.
2) Power: While the MBs are quite powerful machines, you throw at them anything a bit graphical intensive and they'll choke on it. The MBP manages everything quite nicely.
3) Screen: Its bigger, brighter, and sharper than the MB.
4) It's not so much more expensive than the blackbook, and its quite balanced, in my opinion at least.
- Compact for its screen size w/ bright and even screen
- Pro level electronics for the mobile professional
- Light and mobile
- Looks good
- Able to run image/video intensive software w/ dedicated vcard
- Relatively good upgrade-ability
- Great battery life
- And can sub for a desktop if needed
Agree with shecky, this is a very valid point. Compared to the MB, the MBP has the look of a professional. This same marketing idea even spills over into most TV commercials and/or magazine ads where you see the MBP and not the MB.
It is the reason we chose the MBP over the MB for the sales team.
I didn't; I bought a BlackBook. Here's why.
I'm as much of a Pro user as anyone can get, but I cannot stand the aluminum enclosures.
As someone who administers a whole slew of Macs, I can tell you I've stopped buying Apple's aluminum laptops unless the user practically forces me to. Almost every aluminum PowerBook and MBP we have is bashed in in some way or another. Usually it's a corner(s) that is caved in, but sometimes it's the DVD slot, other times the area around the DVI port. On some, it's all of the above.
Even my careful users' aluminum 'books become dented after a couple years. And the dents aren't just cosmetic. A dent by the battery means the battery isn't properly seated. Dent by the DVI port means it is difficult/impossible to plug in ext. video. Dent on the optical drive can make the drive unusable. And so on.
With the iBooks and MacBooks I have never had any issues with the case.
All of that said... I really wish my BlackBook had a better graphics engine. I can definitely notice the chipset-based graphics. (Though maxing it up to 2GB of RAM is a definite improvement.) Nonetheless, it is a price I'm willing to pay to not have to deal with that aluminum. No way am I doing that to myself.

As a new Mac user I have to say my MBP is a very nice computer, and generally I am very happy with it. However more than a few times since I bought it I have somewhat regretted not just getting a Dell or something. OS X excellent if all you do is "use" your computer, but the GUI integration with its "unix roots" is terrible. Not to mention that I could have gotten a much more powerful and compatible computer for quite a bit less money if I had gotten a PC.
However all of that aside I am gradually managing to overcome my difficulties, and generally loving this computer. The webcam is especially nice. I just wish it came with a better terminal emulator since I'm spending 2/3 of my time in it to get around this miserable (but beautiful nonetheless) GUI.

The biggest reason for me to go with a MBP rather than a BB or MB was the graphics card. Whenever I am at home or at work, I use the macintosh with a 22" external monitor.
I was concerned that MB might not be able to drive the screen and run graphic intensive applications at the same time, hence the choice of MBP.
