I still use my VGA 17" Studio Display (CRT), but my dad uses almost all Apple monitors in his office (he runs an ad agency). He has at least a couple reasons for this. First, Apple displays have always seemed to perform above specifications; they just seem to compare better than other displays from their generation against newer monitors, and the color is always reliable. Possibly more important, though, is the external design of the displays. Potential clients are just more visually impressed seeing several new ACDs than, say, Dell displays. Not that I think Dell displays are ugly, but ACDs have an elegance about them that serves them very well in the world of design.

Lol. The world of design? I thought North Branch was just cows and farmers...they actually have people with computers up there? :)

I have a confession....

I was going to buy a 23" ACD but gave into the the 2407WFP. I only paid $660, which is almost $300 less than the 23" ACD.

While I didn't want avoid this, the bargain shopper in me couldn't resist! Hopefully I don't have any of the issues that have been going around with them.

I got 24" Dells for both of my parents and hate them. Unnaturally bright, even with brightness turned all the way down, the rotating feature makes it difficult to keep them absolutely level, colors aren't as 'true' as the ACD.

The ACDs I've looked at (30" and 23" in-store, I own a pair of 20") are worth the added expense, but it has nothing to do with the case or the Apple name.

I actually wrote off the 30" for the longest time - it's ridiculous, who needs that on their desktop, etc. - but I was looking at one when I tested the Mac Pro, and uh... Daddy want. Daddy need.

I bought a non-Apple LCD, an Eizo S2110W. At the time I bought it (end of last year), I didn't own a Mac, so it made no sense to consider an Apple.

If I were to buy an LCD now, I would more than likely still get the Eizo, despite it being more expensive than the Apple 20".

Reasons:

* Eizo are renowned for the quality of their products. This one is no different.
* Looks great.
* Excellent colour quality.
* Useful swivel stand.
* Exclusivity. How many people have heard of Eizo, let alone have one on their desk?
* Five year warranty, lest things go wrong.

The only bad thing I can think of is that it's black, so it won't match all that well with my forthcoming Mac Pro.

I work in a lab with several other people and didn't want to look like a pig by getting a huge display. With that in mind, I decided to keep it to 20". The ACD was the best looking, matching my Mac Pro and PB, so I chose it (new model, arrived today). Had I not been concerned about others thinking I was too self indulgent, I would have spent the same money to get a 24" Dell.

I got an ACD so that it'd match up with my Powerbook. It's part of the user experience to me - I enjoy the flow of one Apple product to another. It's a big part of their design strategy on all levels - for software, hardware, etc.

Coupled with that is the price: to me, they cost £374 with a Higher Education discount on them. Even with UK tax, they're £439 - only £40 more than the Dell. And to be honest, I'll pay that £40 for the better looking aluminium enclosure.

Where did you find the deal for $660? luck or research? It seems to be hovering at $700 on dealmac and other bargain outfits. $40 isn't a dealbreaker, but thats $40 to spend on something else :)
