It is the Crowdstrike's Falcon hitting the crowds. 😏
Best not to use 3rd party fear-mongering apps on macOS. Instead of security, they usually slow down the Mac and might even corrupt it.

While stuck at the airport heard a rumor that Southwest was not directly effected since the use their own Linux based system for flight scheduling. I can confirm that looking out the window the only flights taking off were foreign carriers (Air France, Thai, etc) and Southwest .

Pismo G3 running Kodiak was my 1st Mac. Prior to then, more than a decade of work with CP/M, DOS, Windows, SunOS/Solaris, Irix and Linux.

Now have a Studio Base Max and M3 Pro 14" 18GB/1TB (along with a herd of Raspberyy Pi's and a screaming fast 16GB i7 Chromebook 14".

I had iPhones from 3 to 8 Plus and then switched to Android.

I won an iPad 1, sold it and bought iPad2 the day they were released. Now use a 9.7" iPad Pro to FT with my kids and that's about it.

Don't care at all about the Apple ecosystem. All of my stuff interoperates nicely and I stream shared Music from a 2011 Mini that is running Sonos app.

Yeah; a good friend of mine works for SW, but she's in Operations, not IT, so couldn't provide any wisdom on such.

Prob. linux-esque . . . or, they don't use CS.

I've always been in love with tech.
I started using Windows XP (and often used Windows 98 on my dad's computer) and I was CONVINCED that tech was supposed to be slow and "sticky"
For real, I honestly thought all technology was meant to be a patience game, just staring at the stupid loading icon and waiting for something to happen. I started using laptops too, and shutting the laptop was always risky and veeeery slow. It would take ages for it to turn on again and become usable.

Then I saw a Macbook...just start IMMEDIATELY and that blew my mind. Beyond all things Windows did well, I was so impressed by the fact that you could actually just have a machine that works smoothly and beautifully.

Then I saw iPhones, I remember explicitly how crystal clear the camera looked in the iPhone 4, how "life-like" the pictures were even back then. I remember one of my classmates with an iPhone 6 and I remember thinking "Wow, that's a beautiful phone" Hell, I still remember that when the iPhone 8 came out with its raise to wake feature, I literally went to an Apple Store JUST to try it for myself, and yup the thing lit up when I raised it, I haven't forgot about that.

In other words, I've always wanted Apple stuff, but I remained adamant that "it's too expensive" or "It's overrated"

After my last expensive HP laptop failed meeting my expectations, having the same stupid slow-down, it needing to be charged after 2 hours, loud fans...EVEN after abandoning Windows and having Ubuntu for a year. So I said to myself "You know what? Maybe it's worth a shot"

I'm never looking back now, I said "I'll get a MacBook Air, seems like the M1 is a good starting point" and now I have an iPhone, Watch and AirPods and I don't think I'm ever looking back. This truly is the best hardware, software and ecosystem ever. It's everything I've ever wanted on a machine, they truly are wonderful tools and now I can feel like I can work TRULY well.

TLDR; I used Windows all my life, tried Linux even, nothing compares to Apple.

Love this thread. Can't believe I never saw it before.

My story is simple. As a gamer, I went the PC route in the 1990s, which meant that I ignored Apple products. In 2002, a relative who was into video editing bought an iMac G4 (iLamp) because it came with a DVD burner SuperDrive. I went to stay there for a few days and couldn't stop playing with it - I was fascinated by the design, the software, and overall quality of it.

This was at a time when ripping CDs to MP3 started to become a thing, and I dreamed of a media center computer to house my entire collection. The problem was I didn't want an ugly PC smack bang in the middle of my living room. So - the iMac G4 was the solution. So elegant, so pretty right there in the living room. The iTunes visualizer was icing on the cake - it was just so smooth and colorful. I still have it to this day, and it even boots up - although I haven't tried for a couple of years. I will never part with it.

The rest is history.

Why did I choose Apple?

1. Superior customer support compared to anyone else.

2. Devices that just work without silly gimmicks.

3. Privacy. Microsoft and Google are the alternatives. I don’t think this needs to be elaborated on.

Well, you should've bought a Huawei, or Acer, Asus or Lenovo...😊
