I’ve never had a mini, and I do have 12.9 and 10.5 pros, so I definitely don’t NEED a mini, but have decided to get one, wifi and cellular, 256 storage, space grey. Because, I think it will last a good while and has headphone jack, which I need, and Touch ID which I prefer, and i love the portability of it

When my 10.5 dies I won’t replace that, i’ll Just have 12.9 and the mini, great combination. And I doubt I’ll ever be able to get another 12.9 with headphone jack and Touch ID.

Justifying it because I recently bought an SE instead of the XR, so saved most of the cost of the mini.

Yeah I'm trying to figure out a way to justify it myself... ;-p

I think a mini would go perfect with the 11" Pro. The Pro can be your stay at home device and the mini can be used for on the go or reading in bed. I don't think the XR can be compared to the mini.

I was thinking that too, but if I don’t have to have my pro be portable, I could totally go back to a 12.9.

IDK though - I do love my 11” pro a lot.

There's only one thing to do.... sell the 11 and get the 12.9 and the mini 5. :D

So much enabling on this forum. ;-p

I’m considering it, only because I have someone that might want my 11” pro. If she doesn’t want it though, I’m just gonna keep my 11, be happy, and get over it, although I MAY still buy a mini. ;)

And when do you expect the 10.5” to “die”?

I have never owned the Mini, and I am curious: what is the reading experience like? On my 10.5, I use either Liquid Text or PDF Expert to read and annotate docs, I use Books to read epubs, I use OneNote/ GoodNotes to write. All this is work related. How would all this look and feel on the Mini? Plus, I have poor sight. Can you share any insights/ experience? Thanks in advance.

i prefer e-ink screens for reading ebooks, but if i have to use a tablet to read, i prefer the Mini with a matte screen protector. I heavily use GoodNotes on my 2018 ipad with the Apple Pencil and use GoodNotes on my Mini 4 with the DotPen.

Thanks. I was asking whether reading with less than optimal sight is comfortable. Often, I have to read for over 8 hours a day while writing up notes/ annotating simultaneously. Edit: e ink is not an option for me.

I just bought a 256GB iPad Pro 12.9 and Apple Pencil 2 to replace my iPad Pro 10.5 with dumb stylus. Now I want an iPad mini, but don’t need a pencil for it. I do not need it as I have an iPhone XS Max, so I feel your pain.

I guess we all mix up needs and wants....I want an iPad mini 5 and so I ordered one (256 GB WIFI only) because after owning a 4 for the last couple of years, its the best size for me. After having it for sometime, I realized how awkward the bigger sized iPad felt in my hands (iPad 3). So here goes another purchase of an apple product where I spent large sums of money remorselessly. The only way to spend.

I don’t have the best vision but I’m not finding it hard to read at all. Bare in mind I do use glasses for reading regardless. If you are worried perhaps you should check it out in a store first? The laminated screen helps, and you can enlarge some fonts on your iPad, and even set things to Bold if that helps. Safari can be double clicked to zoom in but you can not enlarge the fonts.

I want Apple to release the Mini with no bezel, Face ID, 4K, and USB-C. I see what Apple is doing. They are using product breadcrumbs to get me to purchase interval versions of a product.

If money is not an issue (meaning you’re not dead broke, in debt up to your eyeballs, etc.), then why “justify”? There are all sorts of expensive hobbies. In the grand scheme of things, a Mini 5 isn’t a HUGE expense. There is something to be said for getting something because you want it, because you’ll use it and enjoy having it.

Just call me an enabler...

I can feel you...

I gave my 2018 ipad to my mom and i waited for 10.5 ipad but when it was released i wanted the mini instead for portability...

I didnt preorder will just grab it in the store on friday but im now ordering the tempered glass for it

Either there is strong demand for the mini right now, or Apple is having trouble getting the initial batch out to dealers. Every time I look at the Apple site, the ship date is farther into April. Right now, it is showing April 17th for new orders.

Couldn’t agree more

The face my mates and work colleagues pull when I say I’ve spent £1k on an iPhone X or £130 on the smart battery case - I don’t have to justify it to them or anyone, but I don’t go out drinking every weekend, I dont bet the amount my mates do (they will spend £130 in one day gambling). It’s my money and I spend it on what I want, tech and gadgets is just the thing I enjoy the most

Ah, the lure of the new and shiny. My 8+ is too small to read subtitles on my Italian and Chinese movies. I need more RAM to draw without freezes in Procreate. The Mini 5 fixes these.

I miss my Mini 4. It was my favorite iPad and I am very happy the Mini 5 has pencil support now too.

It’s much more commuter friendly than any other iPad. And headphone jack, my Italian soundtrack & death metal starved eardrums will thank me (No one else but ;)).

I will be creating more on my commutes and I cannot wait to do that. Eager to trade this 2018 in already.

If you get one, OP, enjoy. I won’t judge.:p:D:p

Im weak. Very much same boat and recently got an ipad pro 11 that im getting a lot of use out of.

Aaaand also posting from the mini5 i just picked up an hour ago. Tbh its great so far. Screen resolution is jawdropping. I have zero investment in this specific models hardware design but if i can throw this in a camera bag, read on the couch, make some dumb music idea or do some hobbyist photo/video editing im a happy nerdy idiot.

The most annoying part of this was that i had recently resigned myself to being very content with my series 2 apple watch for at least another year but they hit me up in another direction

Coming from an iPad Air 2 bought in Dec 2015, it died at the perfect time last month. Looking forward to this mini 5 and its form factor !

every person's eyesight is different. i wear glasses and i have no problem with using an ipad mini all day to jot notes down... no headaches, no eyestrain.

I was honestly just thinking of picking up a used mini 4 just to see how much I’d actually use it, and then passing that to the last grandson a few months down the road and getting a 5 if I found I had the need.

I knew I'd use a mini since I used a mini 2 all the time... i settled for a refurb mini 4 while rumors of the 5 were still sketchy and I don't regret it. I'm really really happy there's a 5, and when I see a place in the gear budget some lucky nextgen will get my 4 and I'll hope by then I can get an Apple-refurb 5. :)
