As cool as the Pixel is, I personally don't want it. I wanted it when I was watching the event but as time went on, I realized that I rather just stay with iOS. Its not even the iPhone that keeps me going, but iOS in general

Not really. The purest Android Google released was the Nexus. The Pixel is running a skin on top of it.I am honestly starting to think the Pixel sounded the deathknell of the real pure Android the Nexus stood for

I didn't say it was pure Android. I said it was Google's vision for Android.

You believe the myth of speedy, hassle free android support and updates directly from google.
Good point on this, by the way. Even Nexus devices were super unreliable in their over-the-air updates. You could flash the phone day one, but it took a lot more work than when Apple releases a new iOS version

It's likely this thread was created to provide yet one more place for people to bash Android, Google and all that's related. Why anyone would reach out to a community of die hard Apple fanatics, asking them to tell you why you want a Pixel is a bit odd.
Or pretty much the opposite of odd given that the much simpler non-philosophical/pedantic version of it that it was created to see why different people might find the phone interesting (to perhaps help the OP see more opinions which could perhaps then help the OP make a better decision as to whether or not the device is more or less interesting to them).

Granted, the phrasing and details could have (and probably should have) been laid out better by the OP.

The Pixel is running a Pixel-only launcher (which will see wider release later), but I would hardly call a launcher a 'skin'. Even stock android runs its own launcher as a service.

I conceded long ago that if you want the latest and greatest android version that actually runs well, be prepared to buy a new phone.

This was probably a bigger deal in the era of 2 year contracts. Not a big concern with annual upgraders like myself.

I wouldn't refer to the deep system level integration with assistant as merely a launcher.

The same could be said for most smartphones of any platform. Just as it applied to Windows PC's many years ago. It's a tech thing :D

I use both platforms concurrently for a reason, each have their distinct advantages. Each are fun and highly capable.

Which is superior?
Neither.

Once upon a time Android couldn't possibly compare to iPhone, but that's no longer the case.

Today's two leading platforms are so good and so capable, it's simply a personal choice and one to be celebrated.

Viva le difference!

I pre-ordered a Pixel XL 128GB. I'm still not 100% positive I won't just keep the 6P another year, but I'll likely stick with the order. I'm disappointed that it's not waterproof, I'm especially disappointed it doesn't have stereo speakers, and I wish they'd have brought wireless charging back. I also wish they would have doubled each RAM tier if they're going to do such a good job of copying Apple's pricing and design. Seems like a better selling point for consumers looking at the iPhone and this new physical clone of it.

That being said, the infinite photo/video backup is an enormous plus. Huge. I go on a number of vacations, and knowing I can back up as many 4K videos as I want - and that the camera will likely do a good job of creating them - is killer for me. In addition, Daydream has been a fantasy of mine for years - portable VR (and Cardboard just didn't cut it, even though it's cool). Daydream is the biggest reason I ordered one, the primary reason I got the XL, and also why I got the extra RAM (for movie storage). Watching a movie while on a flight without having to see anything else/anyone else watching my screen? Awesome. VR games anywhere? Awesome. I know Samsung has more of that, but... no Samsung for me.

Meh, I think once it loses 40 percent of it's value like the nexus 6 did it will be worth it. Right now it is not, also OIS is a must on cameras.

The design is a fail, the 6P looks cool, the nexus 6 clean, this just looks like a fake iPhone clone from the front, with ugly colors. The body to screen ratio is not great, and no front facing speakers sucks.

At least the camera app is better but then Google should have fixed that POS back when kitkat came out with the nexus 5.

Yep.

Nowadays the only superior platform is Windows 10 mobile.
