I usually buy from my carrier because the plan I’m on works for me with a discount and the amount of data I get. I also get a $25 line discount making my access fee $15 rather than $20 on the current unlimited plans, which I don’t need. Plus my plan offers a 20% data discount. This time we were also able to do the buy one get $700 off to save money on our bill as well.

I got my mom's iPhone for her at sam's club on black Friday.... got a $250 sam's club gift card....
I've always gotten my iPhone directly from apple (as well as ipad's, computers and previous watches) but this year I remembered the points at best buy and ordered hubby's watch and my 2nd one from them.

Verizon BOGO deal saved $700 off the 2nd phone. If not for that, I would have bought from Apple.
Same here, I get the same discount its why I also buy directly from my carrier.
I gave up buying through my carrier when the 6 came out as I was put off the ridiculously high monthly cost of the plans.
I worked out that by buying direct from Apple and having a sim-only plan saves me on average about £150-£200 over a 24 month contract.

It’s sensible to not use the cash outright if you don’t have it. But not having it and buying a luxury device is idiotic. Sure I am right to condemn them because these people are usually the ones crying for more taxpayer public assistance.

Most carrier promos require a DPP to qualify. I finance phones because I normally upgrade every year and it makes more sense and it’s safer than trying to sell on eBay, CL, or Swappa. I simply wait for my new device and send my old one in.
I wasn't asking to judge. Simply asking in case I was missing out on something by not buying from an outside retailer.
To be honest with my XS it was because the apple store wasn’t loading right and Verizon was clear and smooth

I have bought one via the Apple store. After they had issues trying to activate - just screwed things up - I bought it outright and went to AT&T and had the problem fixed and the iPhone added to my line.
For me via AT&T has been issue free.

T-Mobile doesn’t allow orders through Apple at least through T-Mobile’s jump program... so I order through T-Mobile
I bought mine from a local Costco. They ran $30 Costco gift card deal which pays for the VZW $30 activation fee.
I have always purchased my phones from Apple, but this year I happened to be switching to Verizon and the buy 1 XS get a second one for $700 off deal they were offering was to good to pass up. Thankfully I also have a friend who works at Verizon, and he was able to set the phones I wanted aside and make the whole process almost as painless as The Apple Store.
I have Cricket, and there is no reason for me to buy a locked device from them for the same price as an unlocked one from Apple. They don’t offer payment plans and I can’t do IUP on prepaid, so paying full price is my only option. I’m completely fine with that.
I see all these carrier deals and they just seem like extra hassle...waiting for rebate cards, committing to 2 years or lose the bill credits...I dunno, I’d much rather keep it simple. But I’m happy there are options for people willing to do that.

Why not use the Apple Online Store? Genuinely asking as I'm curious. If you simply prefer brick & mortar that makes total sense.

Costco is always doing gift card deals. Sometimes buying an older phone via Best Buy gets you a discount if you pay over time.
apple never has discounts
One important thing - If you buy the phone from Apple, it's unlocked (even if you use IUP). And since the financing is through Apple, you can switch carriers if you like without affecting your payments, etc.

I have bought from the Apple online store for certain items however there’s nothing like instant gratification imo lol. No seriously I do shop online a lot (Amazon mostly) but when it comes to high ticket items I just feel more secure buying from a brick and mortar. Tracking lost packages isn’t the greatest fun either especially when they swear they delivered something and you know they didn’t.
