iPhone air is a big non-fitting-to-your-pocket brick with a buggy OS and hefty prcie tag on it for mediocre features it offers. d: )
The Air is already getting some big discounts on some European Amazon sites. And in stock all over the place.
Clearly selling WAY below Apple’s expectations.
It would have needed a new battery tech as bembol suggests, or a new camera, or a new SOMETHING (other than a 5G modem, LOL).
As it is, it kinda feels like a parts-bin phone even though it’s new. It’s got a very Tim Cook feel if you know what I mean.
(On the other hand, it’s probably the best of the new iPhones for me. But it’s probably a sales flop. At this point I’m not sure it’ll get a second version.)
I didn’t say it was a parts-bin phone, just that it feels that way. The new modem is a risk rather than a selling point. Most people who care at all would prefer a high-end Qualcomm. But mostly, modems are invisible and unloved. You cant really say its a parts bin iPhone, when literally everything is new about it. Thinner, new modem C1X, N1 chip, unique 6.5" display, the durable titanium chassis, most of the components in the camera housing...nothing is from the parts bin.

That is an assumption; know way of knowing unless you are a higher up at Apple. The Air is in stock everywhere while the rest of the 17 series are on back order.
Now if Apple's estimates had been correct, all of the models including the Air would have been on backorder around the same time.
Well, it wouldn’t fly in a court of law, but when Amazon France is selling the Air at an 11% discount a couple of weeks in, it’s a pretty safe assumption that something went wrong.Curious. How do you know its "Clearly selling WAY below Apple's expectations"?
Probably because the Air is marked up there compared to the US market and that just brings it to even with the price in USD. They are trying to move units yes, but they are overpriced there to begin with.Well, it wouldn’t fly in a court of law, but when Amazon France is selling the Air at an 11% discount a couple of weeks in, it’s a pretty safe assumption that something went wrong.
Jealously basically.
It’s mostly iPhone pro owners who feel the need to project their insecurities about not having the highest prices iPhone means it can’t be good.
Deep down they know they’re using an iPhone 11 Pro with a bigger camera bump.
Old tech compared to the Air's futuristic look and feel.
All iPhones are marked up by about the same amount in Europe (compared to the US). At launch I worked out the percentages on all of the 17 generation in the major EU markets plus the UK and there was not enough difference to make going for one phone or even one market worthwhile.Probably because the Air is marked up compared to the US market and that just brings it to even with the price in USD. At the end of the day, it’s your opinion and it’s nothing more than an assumption. All iPhones are marked up by about the same amount in Europe (compared to the US). European prices include VAT at about 20%, for what it’s worth (you may know that).
Meanwhile the regular 17 is sold out everywhere in all colours and configurations, while the Pros can mostly be found in stock but are not yet discounted like the Air.
If you look at AT&T trade in values you can still get 1100 off the Pros with trade in of a Iphone 13 or newer but you only got 830 off the air for the same trade in. Now AT&T has lowered the trade in value to 700 toward the Air and its still at 1100 for the pro. So if you are trading in at AT&T the Air will cost you $300 but the pro would be free. Does this mean the Air is doing better than expected so they are pushing more people toward the PRO?The Air is already getting some big discounts on some European Amazon sites. I think the iPhone Air is a very nice phone and I don't hate the users of this device or regard them negatively. I think what many are instead responding to is the belief among some on this forum that owning an Air makes them some type of elevated being that should be admired. As if owning a particular device signals intelligence or sophistication. What it signifies is you went into a store or went online and you bought a nice thing. If you’re an iPhone Air hater or someone who looks down on iPhone Air users, this thread is for you. Let’s have a constructive discussion about your feelings and thoughts and why you feel this way.
No one who has an Air is presenting themselves like that, it really just sounds like people are offended that others bought an Air and really like it and have the inclination to talk positively about it.I think the iPhone Air is a very nice phone and I don't hate the users of this device or regard them negatively. Sure some people are defending themselves for having an Air, but I think most people are just sharing their positive opinions about it, and that in turn upsets trolls and haters who don’t want anyone to enjoy a phone that has a new form factor simply because it has less cameras and battery life. They don’t even want you to be happy about it so they jump down the throats of anyone who praises the Air.The problem is reviewers and blogs were bashing the Air before it even came out, and within the first week that continued. So those that bought the Air and enjoyed it early on felt the need to defend themselves from the start, and came onto forums like this one with an (understandable) chip on their shoulder. Then that chip on their shoulder caused them to come across as somewhat condescending or unnecessarily angry, and the "other side" has responded accordingly.
It's typical online behavior in today's world. It won't really stop until everybody realizes, "Hey, we're actually not in disagreement as much as we think here and these are just phones and we can all buy what we want and respect each others' decisions". But then the trolls (bots?) and 1% that have overly strong opinions about this stuff (on both sides) through fuel on the fire and keep it going...
