This is more of a curiosity question than anything.

Why do poeple jailbreak iPhone 5?

I can understand jailbreaking the iPhone 4S and below (2-3 year contracts and don't/can't switch phones).

The Galaxy 3 has more features and it came out around the same time as the iPhone 5.

Quite a lot of apps are cross platform as well.

The only 2 reasons I can think off are:
1. Small size of the phone
2. Piracy (games appear on iOS first)

If you have a jailbroken iPhone 5, could you share some insight why you chose to jailbreak it instead of going to a non Apple phone?

your simply wrong. I have always jailbroken my device to have better functionality though the many tweaks. Many of which able will be offering in upcoming ios versions. not to mentioning changing fonts, themes etc etc etc... have a great day.

Simple: there are features being JB that you don't have if you're not. Things like: free tethering, NC Settings, shortcut gestures, much better texting apps, etc... Other people enjoy customizing their lock screens and such, but I personally only JB to enhance functionality, not looks. Apple does a better job of design than I can do.

You're pretty much asking why people choose iPhone over Galaxy. There can be many reasons but the simplest and best answer is personal preference.

People like the look and feel of iOS but are not happy with the limitations Apple puts on it. Jailbreaking allows people to take control over their phones.

Personally, I know Android offers many of the same (and different) features as the iPhone but I do not like the look and feel of the Android OS at all.

I know you can get those tweaks but the question hasn't been answered yet.

There are other phones which can do all those but why choose an iPhone 5 instead of the alternatives?

I chose an iPhone 5 because I prefer iOS over Android OS/Blackberry/Windows, etc.

I can only speak for myself as people choose their products for many reasons. You could ask 50 people the same question and get up to 50 answers.

I have never had an Android nor Windoze phone in my hand.
I am satisfied with our iDevices when linked to our Macs/MacBooks.

As others stated, jailbreaking allows me to bring the functionality Apple either chooses to ignore or forgot about to my iDevices.

I'm not sure what your definition of jailbreaking is but there is no difference between jailbreaking a 4, 4s, or a 5. They all run the same software. I have always jailbroken my devices including 5 because I need more functionalities than what Apple provides. One big feature I get from jailbreak is the ability to force the Wifi on. At work, we move around a lot and we get no cell signal so it is very important that my Wifi connection is on all the time so iMessages and calls to my GoogleVoice come through right away.

To answer your other question as to why I simply did not go with an Android device, I have few reasons. #1 is that most of my family members and friends have iDevices so it is easier for me to reach them via iMessage and Facetime. #2 is the Appstore.

"why don't you use android?" because i don't like it.

1. I prefer iOS over Android
2. I have a lot of paid apps from the App Store that I prefer not to buy again for Android
3. There are some great iOS only apps that I would sorely miss if I switched.

Well, I jailbroke to have increased functionality and to change the look of my UI, not for piracy.

I've got a long list of tweaks that make my phone better than stock. Something I could NOT have done without jailbreaking. And I pay for my tweaks!

One example. f.lux! Because of the way it works, it can't be sandboxed. And since it can't , Apple doesn't let it on the App store. But f.lux is very useful!

There is a fallacy out there that jailbreakers are pirates. It's simply not true. Sure, there are people who do that, but that's not a majority. If that were the case, jailbreaking would stop.

Why would all the tweak developers keep devoting their valuable time so that they can just keep on being ripped off?

Because I like iOS better than Android.

This perfectly summed up why I choose the iPhone.

Then add the jailbreak for LockInfo and quick compose/quick reply functionality, which make it even better to use.

Neither are even a consideration for me.

Jailbreaking just makes the phone much more customizable. You can get rid of all the junk you don't need (like the search screen), and change the icon sizes/positions. There are also some nice apps that improve texting and phone calls. I am very happy with the overall functionality/reliability of my iPhone 5 with or without jailbreaking, but customization is sorely lacking unless you jailbreak.

If it's not jailbroken, I'm not interested.

Prematurely got an i5 and waited, won't do it again!

A Question for OP why do android users pick one android device or another? Why Samsung vs say HTC please explain.

this one is pretty simple.

you have to wait months for an update after it's released by google and after 1 year HTC don't update their devices.

Samsung updates their devices very fast and for long time. and there are more samsung users, that means: more roms, mods, kernels, apps, etc...

i like the HTC designs but since the company don't care about updates. i bought the GS4

I agree with this as my previous device was a htc desire hd.

They cancelled the ice cream sandwich update twice because they said it wasn't fast enough even though their new phones had much lower spec.

I've had more updates on my iPhone than my desire hd even though I've had the iPhone for a shorter period of time.

you missed the point you choose your phone because of features, it operations perhaps customer service. it's simply a matter of choice. Jailbreaking is also a choice. like those that root androids. the advantage I will give you is that Android is root friendly. Most android devices can be rooted almost day one where we wait months. I honestly am considering switching to android however I have been with iphone since the 3g I have a sizable investment in apps alone. both in Itunes as well as Cydia.

- Audio Recorder to record calls
- f.lux
- my video camra enhancr
- cameraTweak
- ImageInfo
- Display Recorder
- Background Manager
Etc.

Reason to Jailbreak = LockInfo

LockInfo. I've not seen this feature on ANY smartphone. It's incredible and it helps me stay organized and aware of all communications by simply glancing at the phone.

I have no clue why the OP even brings up the screen size difference between galaxy s3 and iPhone 5 in a thread asking why we are jailbreaking iPhone 5?

I jailbreak for a few reasons and they are f.lux, activator, bitesms, lockdown pro, diet bulletin and poof (or any tweak that can hide icons). A lot of these tweaks apple can easily implement into it's iOS as a stock feature, but they choose not to, so that is why I jailbreak.

So I can make the color temp of my screen easier on the eyes, use gestures to activate toggles and menus, quick reply to messages, lock certain apps from other people accessing them, keeping those ugly notification banners from blocking the top portion of whatever app I'm currently using and hiding dumb stock apps I don't use like voice memos and stocks.

I don't jailbreak for any other reason like pirating apps or because I'm upset I can't get out of my contract and buy a silly Samsung phone with a gigantic screen. I willingly paid the full upgrade price for my iPhone 5 so it has nothing to do with not being able to get a different phone.

I jailbreak to add more functionality to a phone that I already thoroughly enjoy and it just makes me enjoy using it that much more.

I think this sums up why most people jailbreak. Not to pirate apps or because they're upset they can't upgrade to some other phone.

Why play by apples arbitrary rules if they don't even abide?

(As seen from 'borrowing' tweaks over the years and the radically different design of iOS 7 from iphone os 1.0 to iOS 6, why not do it the way I want it in terms of look and features?)

Why are you bringing Galaxy 3 into the equation? It makes no sense.

If you want to ask why people want/use iPhone over Android then ask it. You are implying that if people JB then they should use Android.

I JB my iDevices (3G,3GS and 4S). Even if I have iPhone 5 I would still JB. It does not matter what iDevices I own.

I had a chance to use Galaxy note for a week but didn't like. I enjoy Apple's eco system. I use the iCloud, Address book, Calendar, Notes, iTunes on my mac and would not want to change it to google. It's just too much work. I can also use Address book, Calendar and iTunes offline if I want to but google can't.

You need to learn how to ask a proper question.
