I was originally going to get the Surface Book when it came out, but this thread got me thinking about alternatives. I've been looking for a laptop with a digitizer pen where the screen could be folded for writing on. Someone on this thread suggested Lenovo laptops, and so I went online to talk to a representative. The representative told me the only Lenovo laptop with a digitizer screen was a 12 inch model, and I wanted something larger. However a random google search found a reference to a 14 inch Lenovo laptop that supported an active pen available at Best Buy only.

Best Buy doesn't sell the pen, you have to get it from Lenovo. I liked the laptop, so I bought it. I didn't really need a detachable screen; just one that could be folded back and used for writing. So this meets my needs better than the surface pro, plus it is cheaper.
I still can't feel too sorry for the OEMs based on this case though; it took a fair amount of searching and a lucky break to find about this.
