I own a 17" 2.4 MBP and two 17" HP desktop replacement laptops... i take care of all of them.

I wash my hands everytime before I use my MBP but I think that's just my OCD. I get very cross when food and drink near my MBP.

I am not sure about the validity of the OP's assertion. I read posts all of the time, which are the result of damage caused by neglect and/or mishandling. Others claim innocence about damage, but their description of the problem(s) suggest otherwise.

I take care of all of my stuff. Others do not. I think this applies to everything, not just laptops.

2nd that

i take care of everything i own, its just the way i am. i might be alittle less bothered though if it was something like a £300 compaq or dell.

i will try to keep something that cheap in good condition, but if by accident it does get some cosmetic damage, i wont be too disappointed.

I also agree with this statement. I take care of all my things books, calculator, cell, notepad and so on.

I remember stumbling across a pair of gloves that cleaned your Mac while you typed.

Kinda going a bit far, but I can see some folk would love to use those

This was a huge purchase for me. This MBP needs to last a long time, and so I want to take care of it. I think it would have been the same if I'd bought a PC laptop. But I'm definitely glad I went Mac instead. :apple:

Macs are more fragile

I own a C2D MBP and a C2D MB Black with AppleCare. I also own 2 high-end Dell laptops, both of which cost about $3000 fully loaded with Dell's international warranty and Complete Care package. In other words, I've spent more on my Dell's than my Macs.

I've spent more on cases for my Macs than my Dell's. Why? The aluminum case is more fragile and prone to scratches than the white plastic on my Dell. The Black MB as we know is more prone to showing oils from your fingers.

For the same money, the 3yr Intl warranty on my Dell's cover accidental damage, liquid spills etc. Unfortunately the AppleCare doesn't.

Because...

Because Macs scratch every time you look at them :D My iPod is also still in perfect condition. I take care of everything that I have.

Because it's PERTY! :D

But more specifically, while I agree and am sure that pretty much all the reasons (expense, casing, ... it's a laptop etc) that the majority of Mac afficianados/users I know, aren't just "users" as one person pointed out. They seriously ... love their computers. They stick up for them, and it seems (this is just generally, there are a lot of exceptions i'm sure) have a whole different relationship with their computers and other apple equipment. I'd like to say that's because of the OS and the design and everything that makes Apple's computers so awesome... it's just a way of life and a different breed of people. Those that interact with their computers instead of just "using them" becuase they "have to".

... and please don't flame. Any non-mac users here, or mac users who think i'm full of crap. I'm just speaking from experience in the people I know... I know not everyone fits into the above definition.:p
