With the recession, I bought my first pc notebook since 2010. I got a Dell XPS, due to pricing. But I am already missing sending my SMS’s from the Desktop, and they will lose my 10 bucks a month for Apple News, since I cannot port it to Window. Bummer.

Jonas,
You are lucky. Apple News is crap so you are saving 10 bucks and no real need to send SMS from desktop. You are winning :D

Because i work as web developer and i need to test on safari, so i bought macbook air and old iphone.
I'm primarily working on windows but basically an OS agnostic so i tried my best not to be trapped to certain ecosystem. Thankfully there are lot of cross platform apps.

Apple is unique for me. less freedom, but i like the integration between hardware & software make it an efficient machine.

I also want to buy ipad because of apple pencil. It just the best tablet+stylus for drawing.

Unfortunately Apple is crazy expensive in my country, with no advantage of its legendary aftersales support like in US

I have no practical needs to necessarily use apple products over any other product. I think for me it comes down to:
  • Being completely in the ecosystem (mac, iPhone, iPad, apple watch, AirPods, Apple TV) and how everything integrates so well together.
  • The aesthetics of everything, from the hardware to the software and how they work together. I believe form is just as important as function, I get so much more enjoyment out of using apple products because of the form, I'm not just looking for a tool that i only need for its utility.
  • The support and updates
  • Their commitment to privacy
  • They seem to take their customer's enjoyment of the products more seriously than other companies. I truly do believe they are not only focused on profit, but actually making good products that people enjoy.

I'm something of a collector of 2000s PCs, and Macs are the more collectible then your average PC tower. Other then that I don't buy Apple

Why do I buy Apple?

I guess even though most of what I buy is in fact [Second Hand] Apple, it's still better than the competition. I use PCs at work, and have never been impressed with the build or interface. The only thing going for Windows is Excel - which is really just to say - Excel for Mac is crap.

But - the [Second Hand] part is now becoming more and more. I haven't purchased a new Mac since 2009. The only thing that I tend to buy new these days is the iPhone, but I'll drag that out to at least 4 years per device.

The cost of buying Apple has never been a comfortable part of the equation; the only reason I purchased the new Mac in '09 was due to the Aussie dollar being near parity with the US dollar.

Lately of course Apple seems to have completely disregarded any attempt at pricing products competitively (in the US), so the AUD prices are completely out of the realm of possibility in most cases.

The products, to me, seem to have more emotion in them, or built with more emotion at least. Theyre not always perfect (butterfly keyboards) but generally, I enjoy macOS and iOS far more than the competition and I enjoy apple as a company and fully believe in the philosophy of integration between hardware and software and have found that for me it makes a lot of things not even require a thought, which leaves me to focus on real life.

Settings reminders, events, etc. Super easy, works across all my devices, hand off, air drop, the UI, hardware, all relatively beautiful and fluent. The way folders pop out when you open them on the desktop, no adware on the desktop or in launchpad or anything. It all feels very cohesive and purposeful. Doesn't feel like a mismatch of teams implementing random things here and there to me.
