I have an iPad Pro 12.9 that I will jailbreak as soon as it's available. It baffles my mind why Apple would limit the use of desktop space on such a huge screen. Biggest thing I want to do is to be able to arrange icons how I like and remove app labels. I'd also like to make any app be able to work in split screen mode and I'd also like to be able to adjust the sizes of the screens and possibly even do multiple screens.

Anchor.

FolderEnhancer, Springtomize, probably a few others.

Upscale (dangerous if used incorrectly).

To be fair Eric I don't think he is jailbroken at the minute and he is waiting on a JB for the iOS he is on so that he can do what he wants.

Oh, I assumed that. I was just suggesting tweaks for the options he was wanting.

But if he already knows about those tweaks then…my bad.

I frequently ask myself the same question as the OP when I see JB come up here on MR from time to time. I don't feel as strongly about the security angle, but STABILITY was a whole other thing for me. I know its a matter of finding what tweak is causing you problems and disabling it or otherwise troubleshooting it, but that was way too much hassle for me. Once all of the major functionality of Auxo was implemented via Control Center, I found very little reason to remain jailbroken.

Having said that, more power to all of you who are keeping that community alive! I think at the very least, its a great breeding ground for proof of concept type stuff in iOS that Apple will sometimes implement and sometimes not. And that's fun!

I think if apple were to implement half of the tweaks in Cydia it would be iOS 100 and even then they would screw it up. Look at the way they copied f.lux into night shift with there halfarsed way of doing it

Agree!!!

And Nightshift is only one aspect…

Can anyone really equate the stock Quick Reply with the QR of BiteSMS?

Even when Apple does implement something correctly it's only after the fact! Luna and Ringer X VIP (Ringers and Tones) are two examples of tweaks that Apple has ripped off and implemented stock. But I was using both of those long before they were available to stock users.

In this area, Apple isn't so much innovative as it is possessive.

Exactly. The new control center is another good example. They could have added 3D touch to the toggles and allowed for previews of wifi networks and such, but it's still the same binary toggles. I hope people at Apple take a harder look at the jailbreak community and focus on utility in addition to appearance in the future.

I jailbreak for:

App Admin (My JB MVP)
betterFiveIconDock (Only 4 on 6S+ is silly.)
Fingal (Animated App Icons)
Hide Labels
Shortcuts
Status Modifier (To display free RAM)

That's it for now; still a JB novice.

Shady repo's - Cracked Apps is definitely the route to issues. Many are older versions of the app which can cause issues.

More importantly support the developer by buying into their work and subsequent updates.

I jailbreak for more apps in the dock and dark mode style Ui.

Also to have in the Control Centre what I need such as a Mobile Data toggle.

Sadly I lost my jailbreak due to something not working with :apple: pay.

For an iPhone to have similar features to an unrooted or rooted Android. A stock iOS bores me like Windows Phone without any real tweaks I want on it.

I jailbreak because of tweaks like activator which let me reassign buttons and gestures to a multitude of actions that simplify my phone use. There's also lots of subtle UI tweaks that make the OS feel more polished and easier to use. I think your obsession with security is extreme, but it's your device and no one is forcing you to give up your security.
I'm obsessed with security because it's important & I'm amazed how little people know and care about it and then they get hacked and blame the platform rather than themselves. General population need to be aware of online security.
I don't think you should have started a thread with what appears to be the sole intention of bashing people who enjoy what the jailbreak community adds to their iOS experience.
I started the thread to learn why people do it. Where did you see me bashing people?

From a pure UX perspective, an essential feature such as toggle shouldn't be tied up with more complicated behaviour hidden under 3D Touch to be honest. That just confuses people and also it becomes a cumbersome experience to press the screen and see a list of wifi networks. Apple may add it but with some other type of implementation. It takes a very very long time to go through UX iterations to finally settle with one. Let's see.

Fungal sounds fun.

I jailbreak to add functionality to my device. Pretty simple, really. I have been on stock iOS (9.3) since May and it's okay...the OS has thankfully evolved and jailbreaking is no longer essential. But I will be jailbreaking again when a new release is available.

Free Spotify premium and Pandora One. With unlimited data from Verizon...free hotspot helps too. Pretty much the only reasons for me.

My reasons for jailbreaking:
- RecordPause (pause a video while recording)
- Adblocker 2 (Ad-blocking done the right way - the built in blocker is just as badly implemented as 3rd party keyboards)
- Apex 2 (much better intepretation of folders)
- Aria 2 (being able to choose the tabs on the bottom in Music.app eg. Genres, Interprets, Albums - NO more annoying Apple Music!)
- Ayeris (App icons the way they should be - perfectly designed)
- Canopy (hold on the Tab thumbnail in Safari to quickly open a new tab)
- Cloaky (hide annoying badges like "Activate Wi-Fi or disable airplane mode now")
- Cou (change "slide to answer" knob in Phone.app to buttons)
- Flash (show a flash icon on lockscreen when it is dark automatically)
- GrabberTime (handy clock on grabber of Notification Center)
- Icon Renamer (Rename the icons on the Home Screen)
- NCifNeeded (open notification center to the logical section: if there are no notifications it will open the other tab instead)
- OneTapClear (one tap on the X in notification center dismisses everything)
- Priority Hub (truly my favorite: amazing way of sorting incoming notifications on the lockscreen)
- SwipeSelection (use the keyboard as a touchpad - just like on the 6s, just for older devices)
- Youtube Special version (in Youtube.app: background audio, audio while screen off, download videos)
- Zeppelin (hide the carriert text in the top bar)
- StatusVol X (show the volume indictator subtly in the top bar)
- Downgrading your poor old 4s on iOS 9 to iOS 6. It will feel like a 6s speedwise!
...
and so much more.
I encourage everybody to try it out, it wil supercharge the way you use your phone! Feel free to hit the thumbs up button if there was anything in the list that made you want a jailbreak.

EDIT: here are some smaller tweaks if you are interested:
- Universal Mute (the vibration switcher mutes ALL sounds, not just notifications)
- SpotlightBeGone (disable the left-handed spotlight in iOS 9 (useless, I think))
- NoLowPowerAlert (hide low power alerts)
- NoSlowAnimations (just increase the animation speed a little bit. If you then use a phone without this tweak it will feel like a snail)
- ColorBadges (color the badges on app icons to match the color of the icon)
- ASUpdateHider (hide updates in the App Store. Perfect if you decide not to update a certain app and don't want to see it in the updates list)

I took a look at this and it seems the description mentions just muting the media volume?

In any case I have the option to change the volume via buttons in the Settings app OFF. That way my volume is consistent everywhere.

That means when I mute my iPhone, ALL sounds are muted - except alarms of course.

But here is where the power of jailbreaking comes in.

I have the DisAlarm tweak installed. DisAlarm allows you to disable alarms temporarily (for however long you set it to).

With DisAlarm Flipswitch also installed I can use Activator to call Do Not Disturb AND DisAlarm whenever I flip the mute switch. Hence I have TRUE silence. No sounds, no alerts, no alarms, NOTHING. The way, I believe, the mute button should work period (Apple disagrees with me).

I also have Volume Mixer 2 (iOS9) installed that allows me to adjust EVERY type of volume separately even though I have the setting off in the Settings app. I can call it up with an Activator action and adjust media, ringer, headphone, BT volume, etc all in one dialogue box.

So, this is what works for me.
