pro:
1. easy to use

2. works with my macs very well

3. doesn't require additional setup or software

4. after an iphone reset, you add the email and your set; contacts in less that 1 minute, calendar

5. can locate my phone, even when its on vibrate and its lost in the house. i can have it start beeping so i can look for it or stop looking cause its not at my house and is at a friends

6. syncs keychain to every computer, bookmarks, and everything else so i can just start working after buying a new mac, not super long importing data process

con:
1. costs a benjamin, could cost less (amazon or ebay) but thats the retail price

2. idisk is SLOWWW and horrible (i like dropbox; a no brainer replacement)

3. why @me.com? it sounds so cheesy and unprofessional. i mean, .mac was way better.

4. ability to only set passworded albums from iphoto, and not through me.com

5. i almost forgot, the idisk default folders. i paid for it, why can't i delete those useless folders. all i want is an empty space so i can place whatever and however i want.

6. maybe they can add something similar to "findmyiphone" for macs like "findmymac" where it uses wifi to predict its location with ability to lock and erase hard drive so people can't be bit searching through my files. i know this is possible cause i have something similar to this but would be nice to have this in an interface similar to the current findmyiphone.

Just answered my own question by adding my girlfriend's iPhone to my MobileMe. :)

that's a bad idea for her to let you do that lol. :p
- you can wipe her phone
- change the passsword
- "stalk" her wherever she goes
- and annoy her by sending an alert for 2 minutes

basically, she just got lojacked :D

what prevented me from using mobile me was that it is really limited to default apps and macs. idisk does not work on a pc and I have to use outlook. sorry but I have not used outlook or ie in years. I don 't use safari much though I do use mail as I don't see much of a difference between it and thunderbird.
but I can't fit into apples mold as it would not work for me.

The only useful feature of MobileMe is 'find my iphone', which can easily be disabled by the end user anyway.

It's not hard to find free web hosting with far more functionality, space and bandwidth.

Using any kind of free webmail with contacts and an events calendar lets you access it from wherever you are. If you want a non-Internet backup, just add stuff to your phone.

There are lots of free websites to sign up to where you can add your Favorites and allow access from any computer.

You don't need several different kinds of websites and complicated solutions. At the very least you can get by on webmail alone. At most, three free websites will provide all of MobileMe's functionality. That doesn't require more than about five minutes' effort of searching and sign up.

But its still not as seamless to use as MobileMe is. If you own a Mac(s) and an iPhone and you want to keep everything in sync (and you use the default Mac apps), there is no better solution than MobileMe, period. Push email, push contacts, push calendars and iDisk (which you can now access on your iPhone) make it well worth its price.

I often ask myself why I continue to use Me and before reading this forum I have often thought of searching for a free (or even not free alternative). One thing Me does well is firewall spam. Another thing I like about it is having up to five e-mail addresses that I can change whenever I want. Its useful to have "burners".

The thing I absolutely hate (hate, hate, hate, hate) about Me is how slow it is most of the time. I think Me and PCs hate each other b/c it is particularly slow when I use it from the PC I am obliged to use at work.

It also has a few glitchy things related to the slow comment, but they are so arcane that its not worth describing here.

On a side note: I often use Me in conjunction with Mac's Mail program. I find this makes Me run faster but I really don't understand the relationship between Mail and Me which is one of the reasons I'm finally reading this forum.

In short; its the suckiest thing I've ever used from Apple. How can a company that makes something as smooth and fast as iTunes make something as clunky as Me?

She loves to lose phones so that's an excuse for me to add her :)
