Why do people refer to Windows only as pc, but not mac?

PC merely stands for personal computer, not windows.

If anything, a mac (imo) is the epitome of what a PC is.

But yeah, pc doesn't mean windows, doesn't mean ANY operating system, just personal computer.

Down the rabbit hole
Hi, I am writing a paper and answers to these questions will be very helpful for it.

1. What made you start using Macs?
2. What did you use before you used Macs (if anything)?
3. How long have you been using Macs?
4. Why do you use Macs?
5. What is your opinion on other operating systems?

1. In the design program at school, Macs were provided in the computer lab.

2. I had a sick old HP that couldn't get out of it's own way. I spent lots of time maintaining it and jumping through hoops in hopes that it would run better. I decided it was time to stop screwing around and go back to Apple.

3. Ten years, give or take.

4. I like the user experience, the build quality and as cliche as it sounds, it just works.

5. I also use Win7 and I think it's the best offering from Microsoft to date. I liked XP also because it was very practical and stable. Nevertheless, one cannot escape the fact that they are still Windows.

why?

Started using Apple/Mac in the mid-eighties. Did not understand how computers worked DOS/line code etc. Apple was easier to use.

Nothing

Twenty-Five years give or take.

Reliability and ease of use. Despite years of use I am inexperienced and uninterested in the inner workings of my computer. I turn it on and go to work; the Apple computer is reliable and easy to use.

I occasionally use Window OS for work. When something goes wrong I am unable to figure out what the problem is and fix it. I also have difficulty finding files.

Good luck with your project.

Take care,

Kevin

1. What made you start using Macs?

What I grew up using. Wanted one ever since the first iPod got released.

2. What did you use before you used Macs (if anything)?

A PC of some sort running windows 95.

3. How long have you been using Macs?

Pretty much my whole life, ever since I knew how to use a computer.

4. Why do you use Macs?

It's what I've always used, and I love the hardware and software. I'll always be an Apple user.

5. What is your opinion on other operating systems?

Being a software engineer major, I need to be accustomed to different operating systems. I have no problem with them, but I definitely like the look and feel the most comfortable using Mac OS X.

Interesting to see a lot of people starting to use Macs because they were introduced to them at work. (graphics, design, video, 3D, advertising, marketing ...) — that's how I got started as well — 16 years ago.

I seriously hope that Apple (and Adobe) are not turning their back on the Pro/Mac/creative users, ever.

1. What made you start using Macs?
I started with purchasing an iPod Touch and then an iPad 3...my intended career path is Computer Science and I figure I could develop a few iOS apps for a hobby when not studying.

2. What did you use before you used Macs (if anything)?
I used my family's HP desktops.

3. How long have you been using Macs?
A year.

4. Why do you use Macs?
See #1.

5. What is your opinion on other operating systems?
Personally, I prefer Windows 7 over any other OS. I use ML a lot more just because it is the native OS, but I do tend to use Windows 7 at least 35% of the time I am on my MBA. Apple does make the best hardware I have seen anywhere though.
