Secretly Apple doesn't want the consumer to buy the RAM, they want to horde it all to themselves.

Why indeed does apple cost so much?? I went to crucial, and the ram which i was looking for costs 200 dollars cheaper, and when i went to canadaram, it was even cheaper.

Aren't all ram the same? And if crucial is the best, how come apple ram costs so much?

People like convenience. Having Apple do the extra RAM is quite convenient, one-stop shopping and all, and some people are willing to pay a good deal extra for that, rather than doing it themselves.

I guess I should edit and say a lot of people are lazy. ;)

Hmmmm......

Publicly traded for profit company...highest price people will pay...high margin...high profit...higher share price...wow that's a tough question...just can't figure that one out?????:p

Well, it is priced in US dollars which are not worth too much. ;)

Almost getting to the point where a dollar bill will be worth as much as TP.

Its guaranteed to work and you don't have to install it. Most people have never seen the inside of a computer and have no interest to. I work in a lab and we purchased 20 PowerMacs about 6 months ago. It was much easier to have Apple put in the RAM than for us to worry about it. I could have done it, but why spend the time? That said, I'd never pay for a RAM upgrade when buying just one computer.

I was pricing a MacBook online @ the Apple Store and I noticed that if you were to upgrade to 1Gb of RAM; Apple's RAM cost about the same as Crucial. So if you were upgrading to 1Gb then I'd say go with Apple. Anything lower or higher than 1Gb shop elsewhere.

Not really...upgrading the stock 512 MB to 1 GB by adding a second 512 MB module costs $100 through Apple. It's $66 at Crucial (who I would never, ever buy from), or $50-$60 if you buy it elsewhere (like OWC or DMS).

I'll take the $35+ in my own pocket. Adding RAM is almost easier than turning on the computer.
