Ok, if OP sees this post, I think he will be very happy. I was looking at the El Capitan features list and one of the features of Safari is Clear history, not cookies. But how could this be? I don't see this functionality anywhere.

So I used the safari help and typed in Help, and right there, I found it! Clear History and Keep Website Data...

To see the choice, all you need to do is hold the option-key and click on the Safari menu in the menu bar. Now everyone can be happy!
Doesn't seem like that's available on iOS

It doesn't have to..... history syncs between iOS and mac OS. Deleting from one OS it auto deletes the other one....
Assuming you have that option enabled. Doesn't really work in group environment with shared Mac and individual devices.

Agree with other posters that this is yet another area where Apple decides it knows better than you and makes decisions for us we might like a say in.

And that's assuming not only that you share it, but that you even use a Mac (by far not everyone with iOS devices has Macs).

I just tested the option Clear History but keep website data and it didnt work..... i was logged out on all of my sites.....thats how it is supposed to work?

So i will stick to my own workaround: safari->history->show history->cmd+a to check the all and delete manually :)

Has there been any rational explanation for this change? It's beyond annoying and completely goes against the concept of History/Cache/Login Data that anyone using the internet since the 90's has been used to.

I like to delete history just for good browsing housekeeping. Why do I have to be logged out of all my websites in the process?

Sometimes I have to wipe the cache because some pages aren't rendering correctly or they come up with cached information instead of the latest version of the site. Why do I now have to have all my logins wiped out?

There are practical reasons for having the ability to delete history, cache, form data, logins separately, which is why every single browser since the beginning of the internet has been designed to allow users to do this. That Apple suddenly decides in all their wisdom that it's "all or nothing" suggests to me there's another motivation here. What engineer thought this was a good idea?

Just look at Chrome - you can delete:
Browsing History
Download History
Cookies and other site and plugin data
Cached images and files
Passwords
Autofill form data
Hosted app data
Content licenses

Check a box of what you want to detele and BINGO...CHOICE IS GOOD!!

One way around is use private browsing for non-essential stuff and Goggle searches, that way it doesn't add up to your Google profile. May not be ideal but a simple thing to do.

I like clearing my history (by that I mean -the list of websites I visited). I'm very OCD and I don't like seeing long messy URL's and old things I've searched for when I type in the URL bar.

In iOS 8, after every time I was done browsing, I'd go into bookmarks -> history and cleared my history and I would maintain my logins. So when I start browsing again on any device, I'll already be logged into Facebook, Youtube, Google, MacRumors, etc.

Now in iOS 9, when I finish browsing on one device and I clear my history, it wipes ALL the data on all my devices and I have to relogin on every website, which is frustrating because every time I login into my iCloud and Google I receive email notifications {spams} notifying me I logged in.

Not true in iOS 9 anymore.

Is that in iOS?
