this might be one of the most pointless threads ever.

Also, as I've said before, if you are here on this site and you are a mac-user, and you are arguing about any of it, you're missing the point.

a: STILL people are judging it before they have even laid hands on a finished product. Did we not learn from our mistakes with the iPod?

b: I don't care if there is something very nearly like it or not. I'll be buying the iPhone over all of them (as long as it's up to snuff once I've actually gotten to USE it) simply because as a mac user, it'll be the first phone that is built to work with my mac seamlessly. All these other phones I have to use some kind of third party work-around that inevitably has holes to get my information synced up. period. thats the single best reason for any mac user to buy this phone.

Sure, I hope it's insanely successful with the PC crowd like the iPod has become, but that's not the most important to me.

This may be the most pointless post ever. Who are you to decide how point less people's views are?

It's my opinion. I didn't state it as fact now did I?

It's pointless because there are twenty million people right now making assumptions on how similar the iPhone is to other phones and how it's going to flop, or be the biggest thing ever, or build houses from now on and take millions of jobs.

Seriously, it's gotten a bit out of control. Aside from the few biased reporters who have played with an incomplete prototype for all of ten minutes, NONE of us have used it. Anyone can draw comparisons to anything based on a few photos of instances from an interface.

It's gotten old already.

My opinion of course. Wouldn't want you to get your panties in a bunch.

Edit:
To keep Quboid from being upset with me, I would like to state that my post was my opinion only, and I apologize if I hurt the OP's feelings or anyone else's.

It is purely my opinion that endless debate on the similarities between the iPhone and any other device based on the ten minutes that we have all seen of an as-yet-to-be-released device is pointless, since there is no useful outcome of these discussions.

That's not to say that the thread didn't evoke some emotion from me, since I did feel the need to post in it, and I did post a fairly structured argument. So now that I think about it, maybe it isn't completely pointless, since it did take me away from my work for at least ten minutes as I read and responded to it.

Again, I apologize.

iPhone's UI is much better than LG's, iPhone is much more pretty than LG's, iPhone has a shiny steel rim and LG's is all black, and iPhone has <insert anything you like doesnt really matter> and LG's suck ... and the 10 year old's rant continues ..

utterly pointless thread thats highly opinionated and biased, you just cannot judge something that doesnt exist, not to mention how the final product might differ from the prototype that has been shown to you,

judging how attractive/pretty something is, varies from individual to individual, i for one prefer LG's design over iphone from the pics i have seen .. but that doesnt mean LG is better than iPhone .. and i certainly dont listen to blown-up bloggers dishing their opinions as facts.

its all subjective, not really mean anythin, just like u said, everybody has different idea, different taste. always, why bother arguing.

Are you seriously telling me we cant judge the aesthetics of the phone? We've seen them both in video.

Are you seriously telling me we cant judge the aesthetics of the phone? We've seen them both in video.

ok, plz seriously tell me by watching the video, how large is LG's phone's memory, whats the OS's core? what CPU? what kind of video/audio is supported? does it have a GPS system? is size ok for most ppl? is weight ok for most ppl? does it have 3G? what kind of third party platform it provides? how much it will cost when entering US market? will it have vibration?

judging by video? How classic? unfortunately, ur judgments isn't the answer a buyer want to know.

iPhone looks cool, but I doubt it will be better than a Pocket PC. That's my opinion based on the features and articles I've read about it. I also saw it in person at Mac World, and it didn't appear to be anything spectacular. Sure it does look great, as do most Apple products, but I doubt its hefty price will justify its performance or expandibility. Especially if what I read is true and Apple won't allow 3rd party software support, how ludicrous is that? I love that I can get on the internet on my Pocket PC, navigate to Handango, and browse hundreds of different games or apps that I can download and install right to my phone. If I can't do that on an iPhone, or if I'm limited to a childish supply of add-on software, I'm going to be pretty upset.

Like others have said, though, untill I get one in my hands and can check it out, my XV6700 doesn't have much to worry about.

Attention, clevin, since you obviously cannot READ:

Are you seriously telling me we cant judge the aesthetics of the phone? We've seen them both in video.

Are you seriously telling me we cant judge the AESTHETICS of the phone? We've seen them both in video.

If you can't see why your post doesn't make any sense as a response now, I've done my job. If not, there's no hope for you. Either way, thank you for your time.

funny thing is I did find some of the tech specs on the new LG phone like the messurements of it.

LG phone
98.8 x 54 x 12 mm 85 g
iPhone
115 x 61 x 11.6mm 135g

neither phone will have g3 and both will use EDGE. The LG phone does not have wireless and yes both have blue tooth v2.0

LG phone res is
240x400
iPhone
320x480

Camra on the phone
Lg
1600x1200(do not know what that size is in MP off the top of my head)
iPhone
1280x1024 (2MP) (only reason I know this is I take picture on my digi cam at 2MP and this is there resolution)

That other info out there either one or the other does not list them so there is no way to compare them spec wise. the ones I just listed are the big ones that really where the phone really difference will be. There talk time and standby time will be about the same. Both will be able to play pretty much anything as a ring tone. Just LG phone will have fewer restrictions on it. The LG phone has a slot for the flash memory.

edit: forgot screen size of iPhone and found camera res

I said AESTHETICS. And yes, I can judge this somewhat by videos and pictures.

Also, we can judge fairly about functionality if you have seen some of the Engadget articles. It comes with a 256MB flash card by the way that goes in the MicroSD slot. Current MicroSD cards max out at about 2GB. It has a smaller screen and lower resolution display that the iPhone. It has no WiFi. It has no GPS. It has no sensors. It uses a Flash based UI. It is slightly smaller and weighs slightly less than an iPhone. They both have 2mpx cameras, though the LG has flash.

I think that answered most of your questions.

there is a tone of stuff you can not tell from the videos that you are claiming. Looks we can tell from pictures of it.

Functionality we can not tell yet. Videos really do not tell you that much and since no one really had a chance to do a good first hand review of each phone we can not tell yet.

You are wrong on the camera. Look at my post above and that proves it. 2mp is 1280x1024 and the LG one is above that. I believe that res is 3MP but am not 100% sure all I know is it is more than 2mp

GPS on both phones we do not know if they have it or not. I willing to the LG phone does have GPS because every phone LG sells though sprint or Verizon I know for a fact have GPS in them. Sprint and Verizon require it so they can meet US law on knowing where a 911 call comes from on there phones.
The US law I am talking is since I believe a least 2005 (it might be as early as 2003) all the cellular companies where required to by law be able to give the coordinates of where all emergency calls came from (911). Sprint and Verizon when with GPS for there system. T-Mobile and Cingular when with a signal delay between 3 towers to figure out where you where.

So please where you start saying the iPhone is better stick to information that is not spectives and in the air (all functionality ones are questionable right now)

Dude, it is a 2megapixel camera. The product spec sheet is on the frickin LG website. And I see no mention of a functioning GPS built in, but I dont know much about the laws.

fine what ever about the camera. Only reason I know that stuff about US laws is I remember reading about it back when it was new and I kept up with it. Now if you look on a sprint phone you can disable it but only for non emergency calls. 911 will always activated it.

None of the phones listed on sprint or Verizon web sight say anything about GPS but they all have it. Now how function it is a complete other matter since I never download any software that could of used it but I do believe they had stuff that used the GPS on the phones. It is becoming pretty comon place these days.

But at least limit your self to what we know for a fact and that is tech specs for the most part.

Ironically enough my post talked purely about the tech specs.

You are incorrect.
1280x1024=1,310,720 (aka 1.3MP or million pixels)
1600x1200=1,920,000 (aka 2MP or million pixels)

You are probably not using the highest resolution that your camera is capable of, or the company lied on the MP.

With that said, I think that while the phones look similar the iPhone looks better because of the metal. I also prefer the iPhone because it has the ability to be vastly more powerful because of the amount of programs that can run on it.

Now if only people would stop complaining about Microsoft Windows copying Apple OSes. ;)

I'm pretty sure Apple didn't send LG an iPhone so they could develop software for it, or vice versa.
With that said, I think that while the phones look similar the iPhone looks better because of the metal.

I prefer the iPhone's aesthetics simply because the corners have a larger radius to the curve.
I also prefer the iPhone because it has the ability to be vastly more powerful because of the amount of programs that can run on it.

Well, it remains to be seen just how many programs can run on the iPhone. If the LG supports Java apps, it will certainly have a huge head start. I've got one really nifty Java app on my SE phone. It's a compass that shows where the sun is so you can line the phone up. You can also set it to show the direction to common prayer sites (Jerusalem, Mecca, and Bahji). It gets the relevant information from you inputting a nearby airport's code. Plus, there's Google Maps (which the iPhone has as well,) and Opera Mini (real internet on a phone, but Safari will do that too), and those are just the ones I use.

it more not either one of them. I got my numbers confused and because of how I view the pictures I though I had set it to the seem resolution as my monitor (1280 by 1024) I just went though and look at some pictures I took recently and they where at 2MP which was 1600x1200. Just I had not been viewing them at full size and never really do so you can see how I got them confused. It was back when I change the setting on my camera from 4MP to 2MP I though I was doing it to match my monitor and that was 3 years ago. Since then I never really check to make sure.
