Yeah well it could be more than ten years before that happens and i hope it never happens I don't like AMD.
Your opinion will change.

2 years ago everyone loved AMD, now everyones on the Intel bandwagon. 3 years ago every mac user loved PPC, now their all on the Intel bandwagon. People have a tendency to egg on whoever is winning in the CPU game.

No I never liked AMD I have been using intel For my whole life.

Buying products from a company you "like" is silly. You buy the better product. Done.

In addition, you don't want Intel to crush AMD. Without competition, you don't get much. The slow P4 development was essentially because AMD didn't have anything that was better for a long time. The 9 and 200 series from Nvidia have been so-so jumps because ATI was releasing crap like the 2900XT.

You've heard it a million times, but when companies compete, you win.

EDIT: I found this link and I thought it was interesting, I know it's insight but you know.

Apple and PA Semi could work with Intel to make custom processors.

Intel are beating AMD right now, however before the Core and Core 2 arrived, AMD were killing Intel on every level for the best part of 10 years. And I have no doubt as soon as AMD get themselves sorted out it will be business as usual.
Istanbul (H2 2009, 6 cores) and Magny-Cours (H1 2010, 12 cores) are just the start. Sandtiger (2011, 8~16 cores) looks to be AMD's trump card.

Incidentally, that's why Apple chose Intel processors over AMD's. AMD is in a big hole right now, and their business goals don't match, for instance, AMD doesn't have Intel's vision of mini-processors, like Atom. Atom may power the next iPhone.

AMD lacks the two most important things a CPU manufacturer needs:

  1. Money
  2. Fabrication Space

#1 is so bad right now that AMD is trying to sell #2 in order to keep the lights on, which just means that when they finally do release these new CPUs, they will cost more to build because they'll be leasing their former fabs from new owners. And that will impact how much money they can spend on developing and manufacturing those new CPUs.

What's not to like?

Not silly at all. There have been a number of times that I have chosen one company over another because I like them and paid more for the same product for that reason.

The real question is what does it take for you to LIKE a company in the first place? A company must earn my loyalty and "Like" status. If a company that I like continues to provide good service and products I will keep them in my "LIKE" column.

Sometimes better products, service and support comes at a price. If I like a company I am willing to pay a premium to deal with them in some cases all other things being equal. A company I like will get my sales support in the interest of keeping them around.

Buying known bad products or services from a company just because you like the company IS silly.

That would fall under the buy the better product clause. ;)

I myself am partial to ATI, but when I built a PC back in May 2007, the 2900XT was a failure and the 8 series was clearly the better product. I bought the 8800GTS and never looked back.
