Why doesn’t Apple put more effort into iOS icons and make them less ugly and toy-like?

TBH, iOS needs a complete UI makeover as most of the design language is same since iOS 7. They have dragged the current theme for too long. But priority is VisionOS so iOS users can go eff themselves.

Yep, this is the prime reason I use all widgets and no icons. Easier on the eyes.

I'd like anything that's not the current UI language. Ideally we'd get to choose if we want the old skeuomorphic design language but I know that's a utopia. At the very least I'd like an accent color chooser like the one macOS has had since 2018.

I don’t like how it looks. Didn’t like it ever since 7 (and people were telling me I would get used to it. I learned to tolerate it, but I never got used to it)

Now, with that said, I am not sure I want them to change it, because I fear they will make it even worse

Highly doubt Apple will change the icons anytime soon. They implemented the design language across WatchOS, MacOS and WatchOS. The way that updates have been rushed, lets just have them leave it alone so we don't have to deal with bologna.

Those are mostly fine. We know what the icons on our phones look like, point out where you're having issues.
