The current design requires the dead space where the bezels are due to how thin it is (nothing can fit behind it). If they were to get rid of them and keep the thin edge the useful space inside would reduce exponentially.

A solution would be to make the screen bigger since it doesn't need much depth. Or make the back more "bulbous" by increasing the angle of the back from the edge of screen.

Designs that Apple uses works them into a corner because to improve on one aspect requires them to back track on another.
 
Forget the bezel. I just wish they'd get rid of the chin.

The chin is an ergonomics issue as it increases the overall height of the machine.
